August 2024
Welcome Back, Lions!
Dear Lakeview Families,
We hope that all of you are having a wonderful summer break! Summer can be a great time to reconnect as a family and spend time together. We hope that all of you were able to make some great memories over the past few weeks.
We are also very excited to welcome all of you back to Lakeview in the coming weeks. We wanted to take a moment to share with you important back-to-school information, as the first day of school is approaching rapidly. In this month's edition of the Lions' Roar, you will find information regarding our school's daily schedule. We also have a couple of changes with our staff and would like to welcome our newest Lions to Lakeview. You will also read about Beginning of the Year dates/events, Arrival/Dismissal procedures, Supply Lists, and information about the "WSD Back to School Fair."
We look forward to seeing you soon. Please know that we are always available to answer any questions or address any concerns that you have. Welcome back, Lions!

Beginning of the Year Information
Teacher Assignments- Friday, August 2
Teacher assignments will be sent out on Friday, August 2, through FOCUS around 3:00pm. Transportation information will be sent to parents on August 9, through FOCUS as well.
Meet the Teacher Night (K-5)- Wednesday, August 14, from 5-7 p.m.
This event will be on Wednesday, August 14, beginning at 5 p.m. and ending at 7 p.m. In order to minimize large crowds and allow for adequate parking, we encourage all families with last names beginning with A-L to attend from 5-6 p.m. Families whose last names begin with the letters M-Z can attend from 6-7 p.m. This is a great opportunity to meet your teacher, drop off school supplies, see your classroom, and talk to some friends. We hope to see you there!
First Day of School- Monday, August 19 (We can't wait to see your kids!)
Doors will open at 8:45 a.m. Staff members will be stationed throughout the hallways to help students get to their designated classrooms.
With our limited parking capacity, we encourage parents to bring your child into the building on the first day of school only.
WSD FOCUS
Wentzville School District families,
We are excited to introduce Focus School Software, our new student information system and parent portal. This new tool has replaced SIS K-12 and the previous WSD app. It is designed to be a one-stop shop for everything you need to stay connected and informed about your child's education.
In order to access your student's information for the upcoming school year as quickly and easily as possible when it becomes available on Aug. 2, complete the following steps this month!
(Currently Enrolled WSD Students)
- Navigate to the Focus School Software website or download the new Wentzville Schools app.
- Update your password. To do this, you'll need to click "forgot password." Enter the email associated with your current WSD parent portal account. You will receive an email with a link to your new credentials. "Click to view your new credentials" and then "click here to LOGIN to the Portal" with the new credentials. From there, you will be prompted to reset your password. You can then log into Focus with your new password.
- Delete the old WSD and Student 360 apps from your phone and remove any bookmarks, quick links, or web browser shortcuts you may have saved from the old SIS K-12 portal to help avoid confusion. To find the app, you can also go to your app store and just search "Wentzville Focus" and it will come up! The picture of the owl holding the flag is what you are looking for.
- Breathe! Take a sigh of relief. You're well on your way to a flawless transition to Focus with us.
The evening of Aug. 2, you will be prompted to complete an annual proof of residency form and other annual registration forms within Focus. New this year, you will not be able to view your child's teacher/schedule for the 2024-25 school year until the forms are complete.
Please note, class schedules and teacher assignments are currently being finalized and are not viewable in Focus at this time. This preliminary information was temporarily viewable to families but has since been disabled as they are subject to change. We appreciate your support as we navigate this transition!
Here are a few training videos you may find helpful as well.
How to Download the Community App for Parents
Student Lunch Pins/Passwords
This school year, all student lunch pins will transition from a 5 digit to 6 digit lunch pin. For returning students, their lunch pin will simply have a "1" added to the beginning. For example, 12345 will become 112345. Additionally, their passwords will be updated to reflect the new lunch pin (ie - wsd112345).
New Lakeview Staff Members
We have multiple new staff members to welcome to LVE this year!
- Lauran Ross will be joining our 1st grade team
- Kristen Bohnert will be our new Speech and Language Pathologist
- Emily DuBois will be our new ELL teacher
- Ashley Thies will be our new ESC Counselor
- Kaitlin Eifert will be switching grades and will be joining our Kindergarten team
- Madison Click will be switching grades and will be joining our 3rd Grade team
Kindergarten Orientation
Kindergarten Orientation will take place on two days- Tuesday, August 13 (PM only) and Wednesday, August 14 (AM Only). Each family will sign up for one appointment for their child. Appointments for Tuesday, August 13, will begin at 12 p.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. in the teacher's classroom. Appointments for Wednesday, August 14, will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 12 p.m. The appointment will be 15 minutes long. This format allows our kindergarten teachers to begin building positive rapport with each of our students. During the appointment, the beginning of the year assessments will be administered in a 1:1 setting with your child. Our assessments will also be more valid as they will be given with just one student in the classroom instead of having a classroom full of students while assessing.
Sign-ups for this day will be sent out through email on Friday, August 2 (the same day as teacher assignments). It is critical that families are prompt because appointments are scheduled back to back. The appointment will not be a parent-teacher conference, and no results will be shared during this appointment due to time constraints. School supplies should not be brought to the appointment. All school supplies can be brought to Meet the Teacher Night that evening (August 14) from 5-7 p.m.
During your child’s appointment, parents will complete a beginning-of-the-year survey for your child’s kindergarten teacher. Also, families will view a short video message. The video message will explain important Lakeview procedures and explain what a typical day is like. After viewing the video message, families are welcome to stop by the main office with further questions.
We look forward to meeting all of our newest Lions in a couple of weeks!
2024-2025 LVE School Supply Lists
Back to School Fair
The WSD plans to host the 14th Annual Back to School Fair for District families on Saturday, August 10, from 8-11 a.m. at Liberty High School. The event is intended to get school supplies in the hands of WSD students who need them the most.
The event is free for District families and will feature dozens of vendors, free school supplies, games and fun activities for children. At last year's event, we distributed over $10,000 worth of school supplies to WSD students. In addition, MOChip will be on hand to provide free child identification kits.
While the event is free, families are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Operation Food Search, which serves local families in need. For more information, visit the WSD website.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
This is an important reminder of the drop-off and pick-up procedures that we will enforce for the safety and efficiency of the students and parents at Lakeview Elementary.
- Staff supervision and student drop-off begin at 8:45 a.m. If you arrive early, wait with your child(ren) until 8:45 a.m., in your car, in the car rider line, to assure that they are supervised.
- Parents should not drop students off in the parking lot in order to avoid the drop-off line. This can create a serious safety hazard, as cars entering/exiting likely are not expecting to see children walking or running in areas of the lot other than in the drop-off zone.
***IMPORTANT *** Due to student safety, students who walk home from school will not be able to meet their parents at the front of the building. Parents will need to meet their children at the Fox Ridge sidewalk or the playground (West Wind). If you are picking up your child by car, then you need to utilize the parent pick-up line.
Walkers/Bike-riders- Walkers/Bike-riders are defined as students who walk/ride home on their own without a parent/guardian. The parking lot is not a designated crosswalk and is extremely dangerous for students to walk through unattended. Please do not bypass the carline for convenience and put your child and others in danger. Please do not put your children or our staff in this situation.
Car Riders- Car Riders are defined as students who will have parents/guardians who will utilize our car rider line to drive through and pick their child up. This is the most efficient way if a parent is coming to pick their child up. The line might look long but it moves quickly.
- All cars will enter at the west entrance of the building near the school's marquee. Cars will line up and follow the directions of the staff members facilitating the car rider pick-up.
- When prompted, parents will "scan" the QR code listed on their Parent Pickup tag and sign in. Please wait until prompted to scan/enter your information. Please include the names of all children you are picking up and grades.
- Cars will pull in front of the building
- Students must enter/exit curb-side for safety.
- Cars will then promptly exit the parking lot at the same entrance/exit of the building. Cars are not allowed to cut through the parking lot and access the east entrance to leave.
- Please take a moment to view the Arrival/Dismissal MAP so that you are familiar with the procedures on the first day.
A smooth and efficient procedure takes all of us to work together. I appreciate your willingness and expect all parents to follow the outlined procedures.

Wear It Wednesday
Wear it Wednesday!
Every Wednesday at Lakeview is a House Spirit Day, which we call WEAR IT WEDNESDAY! If your child wears a shirt reflecting their house color, they get one house point. We recognize not all families or students have official house shirts, and we want to recognize students who rock their house colors. As a reminder the colors are:
Altruismo - Black
Amistad - Red
Isibindi - Green
Reveur - Blue
If your child comes to school in a house shirt OR wearing a shirt of their color, they earn a point for their house.
