⏪This Week's Recap
This Week's Recap
Greetings MIS Families and Community,
We would like to bring a few important updates to your attention:
Cell phones and Personal Electronics:
During the school day, students are not allowed to have cell phones or other personal devices visible. They must keep their cell phones, smart watches, wireless headphones, and any other personal devices in their book bags. Teachers are not responsible for personal devices. When students bring personal devices on school premises, they are fully responsible. Faculty and staff at MIS will not be held liable for theft or damages. Instructional time will not be used to search for personal student devices. Any personal device seen during the day will be confiscated.
iReady:
iReady is a computer based program that provides personalized instruction for all students in the areas of math and reading. Each week, students are expected to complete two reading lessons and two math lessons. They should be spending 45 minutes in reading and 45 minutes in math. Please encourage your child/ren to meet this expectation each week. We are slowly making progress towards meeting this expectation. Students who complete two lessons per week, in both math and reading, will receive a small prize🎁.
Math Facts:
Students should be studying math facts every night. They are tested weekly.
Behavior:
Overall, student behavior is getting better, with the exception of fifth grade. Parents, please review the PBIS expectations with your child/ren and encourage them to be respectful of their teachers and instructional time. There are a lot of fifth graders struggling to meet these expectations. Please ensure you are communicating daily with your child's teacher about their behavior and academics. Both of these things go hand in hand. Students can not learn if they are not behaving.
Contact Sports During Recess:
During recess, students are not permitted to play football or use any footballs. Any footballs brought to the school will be confiscated for the year. Additionally, students are not allowed to take off their shoes to use as footballs during recess. Those who fail to comply with this rule will receive an office referral for refusing to obey.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.

Expectations for Student Conduct in South Carolina Public Schools 🏫
Students in the public schools of South Carolina enjoy the same basic rights of United States
citizenship as do other United States citizens. The rights of students are supported by the responsibility to insure that the rights of others are respected. This regulation is adopted with the intent to better assure that the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of public education is available to all those attending the public schools of the state of South Carolina.
Disorderly conduct is defined as those activities engaged in by student(s) which tend to impede orderly classroom procedures or instructional activities, orderly operation of the school, or the frequency or seriousness of which disturb the classroom or school. The provisions of this regulation apply not only to within-school activities, but also to student conduct on school bus transportation vehicles, and other school sponsored activities.
Students are expected to conduct themselves in an orderly, courteous, dignified and respectful manner at all times. They have a responsibility to know and respect the policies, rules, and regulations of the school and District. Violations of such policies, rules, and regulations will result in disciplinary action. School authorities may employ suspension and expulsion, if necessary to enforce the policies.
