Youth Vape Prevention Programming
Our 9th Grade Eagles participated in an interactive Youth Vape Prevention presentation on Monday, designed to teach students the truth about vaping and healthy coping habits. Special thanks to Justen from Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities and Nickole from Madison Heights Community Coalition for bringing programming to MHS!

FAMILY FUN
December 21: If you're feeling a little Grinchy or looking for an extra dose of Christmas cheer, come to the Pontiac Public Library this Saturday from 12-3! There will be fun, food and festivities!!!! And it's all FREE!!! Featuring music and dancing from different parts of the world to aid in feeling the holiday spirit from all over the world! We'll have pictures with Santa and The Grinch as well as fun activities!
December 25: Celebrate the Festival of Lights in Campus Martius at Menorah in the D. There will be greetings from community leaders, strolling entertainment, complimentary hot soup, snacks and cider, and activities for the kids. To RSVP and learn more, visit menorahinthed.com.
December 26: The third annual Motor City Kwanzaa Kinara Lighting ceremony. The ceremony will take place starting at 4 p.m. on a grand stage located at northbound Cadillac Square and Woodward, featuring a keynote address by Detroit Historian Jamon Jordan. The Wright Museum of African American History: celebrations include traditional African drumming and dance, storytelling, spoken word performances, educational workshops, and family-friendly activities. For more information, visit thewright.org.
Detroit Historical Museum: December 22nd
The Detroit Historical Museum will offer FREE admission on Sundays in December. Stop by to check out the festively decorated Streets of Old Detroit, peruse the newest exhibition Toy Town, shop for holiday gifts at the museum store, make a kids craft, and more.

Michigan History Museum: December 21st, & 28th
Beginning with Michigan’s first people’s, the Anishinaabe, and ending in the mid-20th century, take a 3-story tour through time at the Michigan History Center in Lansing. The museum’s hands-on exhibits look at the life and industry in interactive ways that give kids a chance to stroll from the wilderness to the copper mines and into the classroom. The Center is open on Sundays from 1pm to 5pm and admission is FREE!

The Civics Challenge!
The Sandra Day O’Connor Institute for American Democracy is proud to invite middle and high school students to use their creativity in the annual Civics Challenge. Students can earn $500 and help their peers learn more about civics through videos, essays, and original songs!
Finalists in two categories, middle school (6th-8th grade) and high school (9th-12th grade), will be awarded a total of $5,000 in prizes. The 6th annual Civics Challenge entry deadline is Friday, January 10th, 2025. Find more information HERE

Colleges and career schools use the FAFSA form to determine how much financial aid your student is eligible to receive, which could include grants, scholarships, and loans. While the window for completion does not open until December 1st, creation of your FSA ID can be done ahead of time and a FAFSA checklist is available for reference.

*Michigan Achievement Scholarships: These scholarships are designed to help recent high school graduates in Michigan receive funds for continuing education. Eligible students could receive financial aid to attend a college or university with the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, or for a career training program with the Michigan Achievement Skills Scholarship.
- Informational Sessions: Students and families are encouraged to join us for a virtual informational session to learn more about the Michigan Achievement Scholarship.
