Between Two Schools
Dear Wredling Families
Earlier this week, you received a district communication detailing D303’s efforts to enhance safety procedures for our students. In August, D303 educators took part in online and in-person ALICE training, which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. As a result of this training, we are prepared to deliver age-appropriate lessons to our students. This will allow us to provide an options-based approach when responding to critical incidents.
Starting the week of October 7th, students will view an informational video introducing them to the concepts of ALICE. Through the weeks leading to Thanksgiving Break, students will engage in six lessons, roughly one per week. Each lesson is designed for middle school students and focuses on one of the core ALICE concepts: Situational Awareness, Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate.
D303’s Safety and Security website has been updated to include informational ALICE resources, such as parent letters for each lesson. Students will participate in their first safety drill in January utilizing the ALICE concepts. For more information, you are encouraged to visit the ALICE Family and Community site.
If you have any questions specific to your child’s learning, feel free to contact me via my Administrative Assistant at 331-228-3700.
Best Regards,
Tim Loversky

Schedule your Parent-Teacher Conferences
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
The Pick-A-Time portal opened this morning, FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 27th, at 8:00 am
It will promptly close MONDAY, OCTOBER 4th at 11:59 PM. This is a hard deadline. Once the portal closes parents will not be able to schedule a time for these conference dates.
Instead of larger group, or “team” meetings, conferences will be held with individual teachers. All conferences will be held either Zoom or in person, and each conference will be eight minutes long with a four minute transition.
Pick-A-Time Parent-Teacher Conference Scheduling Directions (clickable link):
Login to your HAC (HOME ACCESS CENTER) Account
Click on the link for "Parent-Teacher Conference Scheduler"
Be sure to ONLY choose Q1 (first quarter) teachers!
A few notes about sign-up:
Parents should not feel obligated to sign-up for conferences. If your child is doing well at school, both academically and socially, then you might choose not to have a conference. (It does not make you a bad parent not to sign-up for conferences!) If your child is struggling, we would suggest that you do come to conferences!
You might only feel the need to meet one or a few teachers. There is no obligation to meet every teacher.
If you wish to visit the explore teachers, please sign-up to visit your child’s first-quarter explore teacher.
You can sign-up for a conference with a teacher only one time. Our student services team (counselors, social workers) will be available for conferences, as well. If you decide you need more time with a teacher, we are always willing to meet with you.
In some cases, a teacher may contact you in advance to set-up a conference time. That means we want to guarantee you a time to meet with your child’s teachers.
When you sign-up, try to sign-up for all conferences in a row. (Do not schedule gap times in the middle or you will be waiting around for a long time!)
You are welcome to have your RedHawks student with you during conferences! It is important that they hear what you hear. They are of the age when they are mature and responsible enough to be part of the conversation whether via Zoom or in-person.
Notes from the Office
After School Bus Document Changing Next Week
We will be rolling out a NEW PM BUS document for afterschool dismissal. After using the same document for 5 years or so, it has so much data on it that it has been causing issues with those trying to upate/view it. As part of this update, we have added a separate box where we will document the time our final bus departs. There is also a "notes" box where we will add pertinent bus dismissal announcements.
Starting Monday, 9/30, we will be using a NEW PM BUS ARRIVAL sheet (in Google Sheets). You will want to help your student add this one to their phone. We will continue to use the bus boards each day to document bus information.
Sporting Events at Wredling
Students may not remain in the building or on school property between the 2:50 dismissal and the beginning of the sporting event at 4:30. Wredling does not provide supervision between the end of school and the beginning of sporting events. We appreciate your help in this matter!

Wredling's Book Vending Machine
Did you know that Wredling has a book vending machine, fully stocked with current, high-interest books, perfect for middle school readers? Students have various opportunities throughout the year to earn or win a book token, whether through the Redhawk Pride raffle, participation in library contests, or other team-level incentives.
But our students want more!
Families have the opportunity to purchase a book vending machine token through Pushcoin. These tokens allow students to select a book of their choice, empowering them to explore different genres and expand their reading horizons. What a perfect way to celebrate a special occasion, such as:
A birthday gift
A congratulations gift
A just-because gift
Or any other reason you can think of!
Book Vending Machine Tokens can be purchased on PushCoin for $15. This is slightly more expensive than most books in the machine, but the profits will allow us to continue to stock and purchase more books for future readers.
We would like to thank the PTO for their generosity in purchasing the Book Vending Machine. We look forward to fostering a love of reading, one book at a time! #WredlingReads

Dear Parents and Guardians,
As you may have seen, the Kane County Judges are coming to Wredling to present “Worries of the World Wide Web”. Feedback from previous years from parents indicated that it would be helpful for parents to hear this presentation prior to their students to facilitate conversations at home. The judges have graciously agreed to present to parents on Monday, September 30 at 5:30 in the Wredling Cafeteria. This will be the same presentation that your student will hear at the assembly on October 4. We hope you will join us to learn more!
