REDWOLVES FAMILIES 2024-2025
September 22, 2024
Redwolves Families,
We have reached the halfway point of the first marking period, and I want to take a moment to update you on our progress and reaffirm our commitment to building our future together. It’s been an exciting start to the school year, and I continue to be amazed by the dedication and energy our students bring each day.
Our theme, "Building Our Future," remains at the heart of everything we do. We are moving forward with a clear focus on creating opportunities for growth, not only in the classroom but across our entire community. Together, we are building something special here at Clinton Community Schools.
Progress Reports
With progress reports released last Friday, I encourage families to stay connected with your child's progress. This is a great time to celebrate their achievements and address any areas of concern before we reach the end of the marking period. Remember, we are here to support every step of your child’s journey.
A Note on Social Media Responsibility
In today’s world, social media plays a significant role in our lives, especially for our students. However, I want to stress the importance of using it responsibly. Recently, we've seen instances where information that appears threatening is being reposted on platforms like Snapchat. I urge you to speak with your children about the dangers of reposting content that could cause alarm or spread misinformation. If they come across anything troubling, they should report it to a trusted adult or the appropriate authorities, not amplify it by sharing. Together, we can help ensure a safer environment for everyone.
Safety Drills
All of our school buildings will continue to conduct or begin their safety drills, which will include fire, tornado, and both low- and high-level lockdowns (ALICE). Building administration will communicate with families after each drill has been conducted, so be sure to look out for those updates.
50th Clinton Fall Festival
The 50th Clinton Fall Festival will be held from September 27-29. As a reminder, there will be no school for staff or students on Friday, September 27, so that families can enjoy and participate in the festivities. For more details, visit the Clinton Fall Festival.
Athletics Reminder
We are proud to offer free admission to home athletic events for our students with their I.D. However, please remember that children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent, particularly at Wegner Stadium. For everyone’s safety, we ask that there is no playing, running, or rolling up and down the hills at the stadium. Let's keep the environment safe and enjoyable for all.
Please continue to check building administration communications for updates on all the happenings in each building.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in helping us build a brighter future for our students. Let’s continue to work together to create a safe, positive, and thriving environment for all.
CCS students are truly amazing! Thank you for entrusting them with us.

New Traffic Pattern at the High School Parking lot
New traffic pattern at the high school, designed to enhance safety for both students and drivers. This change introduces a one-way traffic flow, with designated entrances and exits to improve traffic management.
Key Details:
- Entrance and Exit: While the entrance remains the same, the exit has been moved to the west side of the stadium near the scoreboard.
- Parking: Please park only in designated areas and within marked parking spaces.
- Caution: We ask everyone to drive slowly and with extra care as we all adjust to the new traffic flow. Special caution is needed during bus pick-up times between 3:00 PM and 3:20 PM on the east side of the building.
New signs have been installed to guide you and help ensure everyone’s safety as we navigate these changes together.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in keeping our school environment safe.

School Bus Safety
Michigan State Police @Michigan.gov
School buses are the safest mode of transportation for getting children back and forth to school. Riding in a school bus is safer than walking, riding a bicycle, or being driven to school in private vehicles.
Today's school buses are built with safety in mind. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, children are protected in large school buses by compartmentalization, a passive occupant protection system. This provides a protective envelope consisting of strong, closely-spaced seats that have energy-absorbing padded seat backs that help to distribute and reduce crash forces. Compartmentalization is most effective when occupants are fully seated within the bus seat. Seating should be provided that will allow each occupant to sit on a school bus seat without any part of his or her body extending into the aisle.
The majority of bus-related deaths and injuries involve pedestrians - mostly children - who are struck by a bus or injured when they are exiting the bus to cross traffic. Those who pass stopped school buses may be charged with civil infractions carrying a fine between $100 and $500. Violators may also be required to perform up to 100 hours of community service at a school.
Anyone who can touch the bus with an outstretched arm is TOO CLOSE to the bus!
School bus safety tips for drivers:
- Prepare to stop when a slowing bus has its overhead yellow lights flashing
- Stop at least 20 feet away from buses when red lights are flashing, unless driving in the opposite direction on a divided highway
- Slow down in or near school and residential areas
- Look for clues-such as safety patrols, crossing guards, bicycles, and playgrounds-that indicate children might be in the area
- Watch for children between parked cars and other objects
School buses are like traffic signals:
- When overhead lights are flashing yellow: Prepare to stop
- When overhead lights are flashing red: Stop
- When hazard warning lights are flashing: Proceed with caution
School bus safety tips for students:
- Always stay in sight of the bus driver
- Don't hurry off the bus; check traffic first
- Don't go back to the bus after exiting
If you have any questions feel free to reach out to transportation at george.ames@clinton.k12.mi.us
**County Attendance Procedures**
Attendance
Classroom attendance instills a concept of self-discipline, exposes a student to group interactions with teachers and fellow students, and enables a student to hear and participate in class discussion and other related learning experiences.
Regular attendance is critical in the development and learning of all students. Absences are lost hours of learning and instruction, rather than a simple tally of days.
Research shows that chronic absence is a directly linked factor contributing to lower test scores, an increased dropout rate, and significantly lower levels of reading and math abilities. Chronic absence is defined as missing 10% or more of any school period for any reason. Therefore, when interventions take place, it is not necessary to determine whether absences are excused or unexcused.
Goal
The goal of the school district is to link all students and families with the appropriate resources which will enable them to overcome the barriers that interfere with regular attendance.
Absences
All absences must be communicated to the school office by the parent or guardian on the day of. All absences will be handled in the following manner per semester:
- Step 1: After five absences, a letter will be mailed home to notify the parent, or a phone call will be made to the parent.
- Step 2: After nine absences, the school administrator will determine if an Attendance Improvement Meeting with the students and parents is appropriate. The reasons for the absences will be taken into account when determining the need for a meeting. The goal of the meeting will be to address the root cause of the absences, offer academic support, alternative education if appropriate, and attendance expectations to include an attendance agreement. Interventions will include, but are not limited to mental health screening, problem solving, tutoring, outside agency referral, and mentoring. The LISD truancy office will be invited to the meeting and may attend. The attendance improvement plan will be shared with the LISD truancy office and the Lenawee County Prosecutor for review and follow up.
Background Checks
To ensure the safety of our students, Clinton Community Schools will be using the RAPTOR visitor and volunteer management system. All visitors during school hours and/or volunteers with one of our school-sponsored organizations or events will have their background checked.
RAPTOR kiosks have been installed at each school building. Visitors and/or volunteers must participate in the following upon arrival:
- Present a government-issued identification (examples would include a valid driver's license, State ID, military-issued ID, or passport ID)
- Your ID will be scanned
- Once scanned, the visitor or volunteer will be permitted to proceed.
Questions about the procedures can be answered at the office of the building you wish to visit or volunteer in. Student safety is our first priority, your cooperation is sincerely appreciated
