Principal's Letter
Greetings, Lake Windward Families,
We have had a FANTASTIC first 2 weeks of school! Honestly, it's been one of the smoothest starts we have had since I've been principal.
Last week, Mrs. Bailey (assistant principal) and I started visiting classrooms to read The Thing Lenny Loves Most About Baseball. After we read the book we ask students what they think we can learn from this story. Students are able to tell us the lesson is about not giving up when we aren't good at something right away. The main character, Lenny, has perseverance and patience and he puts in hard work to get good at something he set his mind to (baseball). There is also a message in the book of not having to be good ALL the time....that perfection is not the goal. I will also say that Lenny's Dad played an important role in his success, too. He was encouraging when Lenny wanted to give up, but kept exposing him to the topic and helping him practice. He did not lower the standard, but helped his son make short term obtainable goals and cheered him on to meet those goals. He never did the work for his son. If you do the work for your child, they will never get better. As parents, we want to be encouraging and refrain from always pointing out the negative, so our kids won't give up on things that are hard. Mrs. Bailey and I look forward to continuing our visits to classrooms this week!
Kind regards,
Julie Morris
