Avon High School
September 2024 News
Welcome Back!
It is official! The AHS Eagles have had an excellent full week of school along with the first two days of safety drills, classroom expectations, handbook policies, and school procedures.
Our Eagles will share that we have really tightened up our cell phone policy to "zero cell phone use" in the classroom as well as not permitting students to use their phones on restroom passes. It truly is amazing how much less time students are out of class without their phones.
The new driveway has been a complete game changer for arrival and dismissal. After seven days of use, our efficiency is tremendous! Thank you Mr. Hokavar who mapped out the logistics of student parking spaces to complement arrival and dismissal. The "purple carpet" for arrival is safe and efficient. The drop off loop makes traversing the parking lot safe for students to get into our school. Our admin team will continue to be on duty and especially love watching all of the family four legged siblings drop off their humans. Eagles - say "I love you" to your parents and know that they enjoy your hugs as you leave their vehicles.
Eagle Proud,
Kristina Dobos Buller, Principal

School Safety Education
School Safety
A number of laws (HB 123 & SB 288) were passed in Ohio that require concentrated education on serious subject matters. You will find HB 123’s central focus is student safety and school climate; whereas SB 288 has been updated so that all high school students will receive annual education on sex abuse prevention, dating violence and sexual violence prevention. SB 288 training will occur at the start of October and more information will be sent directly to you.
In keeping with HB 123, Avon Local Schools has chosen The Sandy Hook Promise curriculum recommended by Ohio for students. Already this year, our school counselors have included in their weekly updates information regarding “Start with Hello.” During presentations counselors engaged students in how to create new social connections and create a sense of belonging among teens, with the goal of being a kinder school.
Later this month, health teachers from the entire district will be in classrooms covering suicide awareness and prevention, and an entire school assembly will touch on topics such as safety training and violence prevention. All in all, it will be a month rich in information to assist in keeping our campus and climate the best it can be.
Midday Assembly Schedule

We will be running on the Midday Assembly Schedule on Friday, September 13th so we can host an assembly on School Safety for our students.

AHS Activity/Club Fair
September 18-19, 2024
Avon High School has over 20 clubs and activities for students to join. This is an excellent opportunity for students to make new friends and get involved in their school community. It also provides students with quality experiences they can use on their college applications. More importantly, these clubs help shape our Eagles into young adults. We will have an activity/club fair on Wednesday, September 18th and Thursday, September 19th during lunch periods 4A, 4B, and 4C in the main gym. Students will be able to visit club tables during lunch to learn more about each group and sign up to become a member!
Start with Hello
In compliance with the Ohio SAVE Students Act (2021), students in grades 9 - 12 participated in Start with Hello presentations.
During the week of September 16th - 20th, students are encouraged to participate in Start With Hello Week where they will apply what was learned in the presentations in their everyday lives. Students will have the opportunity to practice social inclusion through various activities that will be promoted in their lunch periods during that week.
Start with Hello is a curriculum by Sandy Hook Promise. This initiative promotes an empathetic and inclusive school community. Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the counselors of Avon High School as they will be the providers of the presentations and can best answer any questions you may have.
Learning Labs are Coming!
Learning labs are subject specific, drop-in style support for students. Learning lab is available to students before school and during 1st, 4th, and 7th periods. This is an opportunity for students to get extra help on topics or assignments outside of their regular instructional time. Students must bring questions, assignments, class materials, or notes which they would like extra support with to the learning lab.
Scheduled Labs:
Before school: (6:45am-7:15am)
Math (AHS Commons with Mrs. Woods)
During 4th period lunch:
Math and Science (See the Rotation of Teachers)
7th period:
Math
