HOMEWORK FREE DAYS FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR
South Brunswick has consistently implemented 'homework-free' nights throughout the year to provide students with a well-deserved respite from academic demands. These nights are designed to alleviate the pressure of homework and assignments, allowing students to pursue personal interests, spend quality time with loved ones, and engage in extracurricular activities. While meaningful homework assignments can be valuable for reinforcing learning and fostering critical thinking, we recognize the importance of balancing academic responsibilities with personal time and relaxation.

NATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION AWARENESS WEEK
September 8th - September 14th
The South Brunswick School District took the following steps last week to promote awareness of signs of sucide and to shared tools for prevention:
- A Suicide Prevention Resource Guide was shared with all district staff
(https://secure.smore.com/n/1gnbj) The BRIDGE Center hosted two Suicide prevention tables during all 3 lunches at SBHS. The tables featured warning signs of suicide, risk factors, and resources to support and to bring awareness and prevention based skills to our students to reduce the factors of suicide in our student community. Stress balls with positive affirmations were given out. BRIDGE staff asked students to share a message of hope or encouragement on a post-it note. After the lunches, the notes were used to create a message of hope on the bulletin board outside the BRIDGE Center.
Over the month BRIDGE is sharing suicide prevention resources and information during lunch groups called our "Bridge Talks" with students to spread awareness and supports available. This is to help students connect and engage with the proper professional help to manage suicide risk factors thorugh counseling at the BRIDGE Center or providing community resources.
At SBHS, the Student Assistance Counselors have begun to deliver the Signs of Suicide lessons to freshman during health classes, and will provide resources to students if they need help or are worried about classmates.

Students and staff participated during PE classes and staff and community members were encouraged to participate as well. Donations were collected for Tuesday's Children and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Both provide healing and aid for those whose lives have been forever changed by traumatic loss. This tribute first started in 2018 by then PE Supervisor, John Harding because they wanted to do their part to make sure the school never forgets the lives that were lost that day.
