Please consider joining our school volunteer program. Our students will greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions to the school’s program and its operations. You can donate one hour or one day a week, or perhaps you’d be able to work on one project during the school year. No matter what you prefer, we’re happy to work with you to ensure a positive experience!
We seek volunteers to help us with the following activities:
- Listen to students read.
- Read to students.
- Chaperone field trips.
- Assist in the classroom.
- All visitors must check into the office upon arrival.
If interested, please call our Volunteer Coordinator at 253.298.3500. We’ll be glad to work with you to complete the online volunteer screening.
ALL volunteers MUST complete a volunteer screening at the beginning of each school year.
VISITORS & GUESTS EXPECTATIONS
Elmhurst welcomes our many visitors – family, teachers from other schools and districts, and guest presenters.
- All visitors must make arrangements with the classroom teacher at least one day prior to visiting.24 hour notice and teacher approval.

Watch D.O.G.S and Super M.O.M.S-Interest Meeting
Elmhurst will be having an informational meeting to seek interest and learn about a possible Watch D.O.G.S and Super M.O.M.S at Elmhurst.
What is Watch D.O.G.S?
Watch D.O.G.S - Dads of Great Students is a national educational initiative of the National Center For Fathering. Dads, Grandfathers, Uncles are welcomed into their child’s school to work with and serve as a role model for all students.
What are the goals of Watch D.O.G.S?
Goal 1 - provide a positive male role model for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
Goal 2 - provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school sense of belonging.
Why do we need YOU?
Watch D.O.G.S is a volunteer program. If not for men like you willing to volunteer your time to have a positive impact on children, there would be no Watch D.O.G.S! Our students need positive male role models and by showing up to spend a day at school with your child is showing them that school matters and that THEY MATTER!
What does being a WatchDog look like?
It can be a full day or half day commitment. You will get a schedule that allows you to not only work with your child, but other children in the building. You will get to build relationships with Elmhurst teachers and staff.
Please consider volunteering to be a WatchDog!
Super M.O.M.S.--Moms Of Magnificent Students is a Mother Figure involvement program--aunts, grandmas, step mom etc. that focuses on academics with students and mentoring of students.
Goal 1: To be a positive influence with students and to demonstrate by their presence that education is important
Goal 2: The academic focus will be working with students extra reading/math practice, independent academic practice in the classroom during workstations, reading aloud activities and/or extra hands working with specific skill. It works the same way as WatchDogs.
Date: TBD
Time: TBD
Location: Community Room/Lunch Room
No Costumes at school on Oct 31st.
We will be having a Spirit Week the last week of the month in October. There will be a theme and look for more information coming soon. This is the same week we have our student assembly.
Picture Day
Thursday, October 4th is Picture Day for our students at Elmhurst. Picture envelopes should be returned on picture day with exact cash enclosed or a check made payable to QSP. You may also order pictures online with a credit card at www.qualityschoolportraits.com with the online code: ELMH
If your child misses picture day, we will have a retake day on November 4th!
Bullying Prevention Month
October is Bullying Prevention Month
To further help our school be a safe and respectful place, we are also going to use the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit. In the lessons, your child will learn specific skills to help stop bullying. Students will learn how to:
- Recognize when bullying is happening
- Report bullying to a caring adult
- Refuse to let bullying happen to themselves or others
- Be a bystander who stands up and is part of the solution to bullying

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures🚗
Safety for all in mind
As we start the new school year we have some updates to parent and pick up. This will help with traffic flow and having students stay in class longer to receive instruction from their teacher.
Student Car Drop off:
Please stay in your car until the supervising adults opens the car door to release students from cars in the NEW drop off area. There will be signs to help remind. This is for student and staff safety. Staff will walk out to release students from cars at 9:25am. Drop off is from 9:25am-9:35am.If you are parent pick up or drop off this means you are in your car in the parent pick up and drop off line.
- Students who arrive at or after 9:35 will have to have a parent come into the office to sign them in. *Please note that due to safety concerns, parents may not drop off late students to enter the building unsupervised. Parents must park, come into the office, and sign the student in with the time and reason for the tardy.
Student Car Pick up:
Please stay in your car until you reach the pick up location that will be clearly marked with signs and cones. Your child will be waiting for you. Students will be directed by an adult to stand at a specific area for your car. Dismissal is at 4:05. You need to stay in your car for pick-up to allow traffic flow an school safety.
We will have tags for car windows and will be calling names quicker using our numbering system. The goal is to have your child waiting for you when you pull up to the numbered gate area. If you still dont have a card please reach out the school and email Lbbi Shawley at eshawley@franklinpierceschools.org
Thanks for your patience and flexibility as we navigate this change.
Walker /walk up -student pick up: Adults' picking up students to walk with them are asked to wait in the designed area on the map .If you are out of your car and wanting to pick up your child, that is considered a walker and will be in a separate location on the map.
NEW AREA PLEASE SEE THE MAP
Important Information:
Gates will open to enter the parent drop off (Car) at 9:00am and pick up (Car) at 3:45pm
Call the office if you are changing walking vs parent pick up
Breakfast starts at 9:25am
School Starts at 9:35am
Dismissal is at 4:05pm
Parent Pick up & Drop Off: Remaining in your car
Student Walkers: Students walking home or meeting parent
For campus safety you need to stay behind the gated areas. All visitors are required to check into the office upon entering a school building and campus.
Thank you in advance for understanding that our school day begins at 9:35 and students should be in their classrooms by that time. Thank you for working with us to support our community and helping traffic flow better around the school. Our community appreciates it.
Daily way of going home needed!
Please make sure at conferences you have identified the daily way your child is going home. This is the regular way of going home. A main way must be picked. Teachers will review this with families at conferences.
1. Bus Rider
2. Parent Car pick up
3. Walker/Parent walk up pick up
If you need to make a change please notify the office of that change for that day ONLY. The Regular way of going home will be done unless you notify the office of a change.
