The Spencer Scoop
Spencer Elementary - November 1, 2024
Reminder
There is NO SCHOOL on Tuesday, November 5th due to Election Day!
Note from the Principal
Hello Spencer Families,
What an exciting week! I was so worried that we would have a rainy Halloween, however, we had beautiful weather and an amazing sunset. As a reminder, we do not have school next Tuesday.
I wanted to share some parking lot reminders that could be helpful with our congestion.
- In the morning, you are only to turn right. If you attempt to make a left turn, it backs up the line and can be extremely dangerous for Spencer Rd.
- If you are walking your student up, if you can stay parked until 9:05 to pull out, it could also help with congestion. I realize you may have to leave sooner, but if you can wait a couple minutes, we would appreciate it.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and spend lots of times together as a family. Looking forward to seeing all our Roadrunners on Monday!
Mrs. Boyd
The McKinney Vento Act
The Brighton Area Schools is part of a consortium to serve students in temporary living situations that
provides financial support for educational needs, referral for housing, clothing and other needs, general
support and technical assistance. To ensure compliance with federal law, all school staff must help
identify students living in the following situations: emergency shelters/transitional housing,
motels/hotels, car, parks or public spaces, shared housing due to a loss of housing or economic
hardship, or living temporarily with non-parent or guardian.
The district’s homeless liaison is Starr Acromite and each building has trained staff members to assist in the endeavor. Our consortium contact at the Livingston Educational Service Agency is Candice Olrich.
Please contact your building principal or Starr Acromite at 810-299-4040 for information/assistance.

Counselor's Corner
Hello from your Spencer School Counselor, Mrs. McKiddy! I am absolutely thrilled to have visited so many classrooms again during the month of October. For the month of November, I plan to connect with students in their classes to work on Growth Mindset and Grit! We will talk about this positive way to approach challenges and practice our skills as we learn to continue working through productive struggle. This lesson will include activities to practice and phrases to use to help us grow with the Power of Yet! Thank you for your continued support at home to encourage our young learners with this important life lesson.
Lets Connect: If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed at school.
More Resources: The Elementary Counseling Team also has the BAS Elementary Counseling (New Updates!) website for ideas and resources to be used at home!

BAS Mental Health & Wellness
As a district, it is our mission to provide a rigorous, meaningful, and well-rounded education that will inspire each student to achieve their personal best. BAS believes that each student and staff member can reach their full potential when challenged to do their best, with an open mind, and with an unwavering commitment to personal growth.
We continue to increase our efforts to support each person's mental health and wellness with resources, time, and experiences. This information and much more can be found on the BAS Wellness & Mental Health website or download the app by typing in Brighton Area Schools on iTunes or Google Play.
Just In Case Clothes
Parents - Please make sure you pack a change of clothes (that are weather appropriate) in your child's backpack EVERY DAY. This is for ALL students, grades JK-4th, you never know when your student may have a nosebleed, or loose a tooth, or spill food/milk on their shirt, or find a mud puddle outside, or have a bathroom accident. If your student keeps a change of clothing in their backpack, then we can take care of it here, otherwise we need you to bring up a change of clothes. Thank you for your cooperation.
