Save the date for conference nights! Students will lead a portion of the conference by going over their learner profile and some student work samples. Parents will receive progress reports and other important updates on the school year.

All teachers at Sonora Middle School implement Standards-Based Grading (SBG) and have created proficiency scales for their essential standards. Our school uses SBG because it is supported by leading education experts, gives accurate feedback on learning and areas of growth, and allows for us to meet individual student needs. Our district's elementary schools also use SBG, so it creates alignment and consistency through middle school.

How do I access my child's grades?

Our school is using the grading platform, Empower. Parents will be given the first progress report and a handout with their unique login code at fall conferences.

Middle schoolers have another round of immunizations due. Students who do not have documentation updated will be unable to attend school after October 1st. Here are some free immunization opportunities.

Attendance matters! Students need to be at school every day. If they have a doctor's appointment, dentist appointment, or attended a funeral, please bring documentation to the front office to mark it excused. We cannot mark an absence as excused unless we have appropriate documentation. Students who have 8+ unexcused absences in a semester are considered chronically absence. When students are in jeopardy of accumulating 8 absences, we will complete an attendance contract.

Students need to bring a book that they are reading to all of their classes each day!

We are now at 71% of parents active in Rooms! We are getting closer to 100%! Rooms is designed for parents to chat with individual teachers and get notifications about positive/negative behaviors.

Please contact the school directly for important messages for your child (e.g. "My student needs to be a car rider today"). Teachers often do not check their phones or email throughout the day, and they rotate through teaching up to 150 students per day, so it can be hard to deliver a personal message.

You should have received email and text notifications to sign up for Rooms. Please get set up and make sure to turn on notifications. We sent home "magic codes" for anyone having problems. If you continue to have trouble accessing your child's information in Rooms this week, email cjennings@sdale.org with your name, the child's name, and the issue.
