April is recognized as National Arab American Heritage Month.
April is recognized as National Arab American Heritage Month. This month is a time to celebrate the heritage and contributions of Arab Americans, as well as to combat anti-Arab prejudices and stereotypes.
What is Mental Health Awareness Month?
Mental Health Awareness Month was originally established by the Mental Health America organization and is recognized during the month of May. It was created as a way to educate the public about mental illness, raise awareness surrounding research and treatments, reduce the stigma associated with mental illness, and celebrate recovery from mental illness. Because of misconceptions and stigma surrounding mental health issues, people often suffer in silence and don’t seek treatment for their conditions. Mental health awareness is an important initiative to improve understanding of mental health conditions and increase access to healthcare for those who need it.
"In celebration of Children's Mental Health Awareness Week we are sending home Flowers for families to decorate on April 28th. We ask that you please write on the petals the activities/ strategies that positively support your child/children's mental health. Examples are "deep breathing" or "playing outside" or "spending time with family". Please decorate and cut out the flower and return it to the main office by May 2, 2025. This is a great opportunity to talk about healthy ways to manage our emotions and stress as a family as well. We hope you enjoy this activity and can't wait to see our garden of strategies grow here at Dawes!"
Special Olympians
Our little ones are preparing for the Special Olympics Unified games, which promote inclusion by bringing students with and without intellectual disabilities together in sports and whole-school engagement activities, fostering inclusive school environments.
Run Like a Cheetah
Each Cheetah session begins with a mindfuness activity. This time allows the children to relax, get focused, and be read for their next challenge. A calm mind helps the children stay positive, balance their emotions, be productive, and alleviate anxiety.

Every Day Counts: The Importance of School Attendance
Attending school every day is key to academic success. When students miss class, they miss important lessons, discussions, and social interactions that help them grow. Even a few absences a month can add up and make it harder to keep up.
We understand that occasional absences happen, but building strong routines—like consistent bedtimes and morning prep—helps students arrive on time and ready to learn. Let’s work together to support great attendance and student success!
