Hello, AMS Students and families,

As we wrap up our semester one and gear up to start the second semester, I want to take a moment to celebrate the hard work and achievements of the first half of the school year. Whether you've met your goals or faced some challenges, the second semester is a fresh start and an opportunity to build on past successes or turn things around.

Let’s commit to hard work, focus, and perseverance as we move forward together. Remember, each day is a chance to learn, grow, and achieve great things!

Important Reminders for the Week:

1. Check Your Schedules: Before heading to school tomorrow, please double-check your class schedule. Some students may notice changes in class periods or teachers, and it’s essential to be prepared.

2. Winter MAP Testing: This week, students will be completing their annual winter MAP assessments. These tests help us track academic growth and guide instruction. Please ensure your student gets plenty of rest and comes prepared to do their best.

3. Upcoming Guest Speaker from Curate Hope:

   • Caregiver Forum: On the evening of February 6th, we are thrilled to welcome a representative from Curate Hope to host a forum for parents and caregivers at the high school. This event will focus on important topics related to fostering hope and resilience in young people.

   • Student Assembly: On February 7th, our guest speaker will lead an assembly for our students here at school. This promises to be an engaging and impactful experience.

   • A detailed flyer with more information will be shared soon, so stay tuned!

In partnership with Anacortes Lions Club, hearing and vision screening will take place at Anacortes Middle School on Thursday, January 30th, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. 7th grade students will be screened for hearing and vision. If your student does not receive passing results on either screen, you will be contacted by health room staff with individual results. If your student’s screening results are within normal range you will not receive a notice home.

Please note: This screening does not replace a professional examination. Although school based screenings can indicate many abnormalities, it is not an all-inclusive screen. If you have hearing or vision concerns for your child please contact their primary care provider for further examination.

District MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing will begin on January 27th. MAP assessments are computer adaptive achievement tests in Mathematics and Reading and are a norm-referenced measure of student growth over time. Please notice the updated test dates above.

Mark your calendars! On February 13, AMS will host Student-Led Conferences, a unique opportunity for students to actively share their learning journey. During these conferences, students will present artifacts and reflections from their classes, highlighting their achievements, growth, and goals. This meaningful experience empowers students to take ownership of their education while fostering valuable conversations with their families.

Stay tuned for more details! A family letter and SignUpGenius link will be shared later this month to help you schedule your conference.

AMS Leadership is selling AMS Hawk Spirit shirts for $15. Proceeds will go to Seattle Children's Hospital. Students and families can pre order their shirts by bringing their money to the office before school, after school or during lunch. Online payments will be available starting Thursday, January 16th. Don't wait! Order your shirt before January 31st! Show your Hawk Pride and support a good cause!

Anacortes Middle School PE shirts are ordered online HERE directly through our vendor and are not available to purchase through the school. Second semester starts January 27th so please make sure your student is prepared and has a PE shirt.

Karin Cooper:

My math 7 classes are just beginning a new unit, Operations with Positive and Negative Numbers. We will learn to perform all 4 operations with positive and negative numbers using a variety of strategies and then apply the operations to analyze real life data.

My geometry class is beginning a unit on Solid Geometry. We will start with looking at cross sections then move to scaling, area and volume.

Pre-Planned absence forms are required for any absence that will be longer than three days. Students can stop by the office for one or can email to request one be sent to them.

Students that are just arriving or leaving early from school must come and sign in/out.
