The Message..
Hello Hornet Nation!
We’ve officially wrapped up our first full week, and it’s been an incredible start to the school year! It’s truly inspiring to walk into classrooms where every student is fully engaged in their learning—without the distraction of cell phones. Our teachers appreciate the shift away from competing with social media for students' attention, and we believe this change will prove to be beneficial for everyone involved.
This past week marked the beginning of Nest Hour, and while it showed promise, there’s room for improvement. Most students adhered to the expectations, but Thursday posed some challenges with groups choosing not to stay in designated areas during Green and Gold lunch, leading to wandering in the halls. Unfortunately, this would have resulted in a higher number of detentions than we could handle and prompted us to revert to ABC lunch on Friday. We encourage all students to consider how their choices impact their peers. Nest Hour is a wonderful opportunity, but it’s a privilege that must be respected. As we head into this week, let’s work together to ensure everyone contributes positively to this experience. Our staff truly enjoys Nest Hour, as well, and hopes to continue it with full support from our student body.
A quick reminder for parents: Schoology is available for checking daily grade progress and missing assignments, while HAC is the platform for monitoring daily attendance and tardies, as well as report cards at the end of each quarter. Thank you for your continued support!
The week will be what you make it, so let’s make it GREAT together!
We Are… GREAT MILLS

Attention SENIORS! If you enjoy public speaking and would like to help our younger Hornets, this opportunity is for you! We are holding a Student Panel this Fall and are in need of student presenters. As a panelist, you will share positive experiences about your high school career here at GMHS, the Tech Center or any other clubs you participate in, and share helpful advice with our underclassmen that will help them be successful in high school. Requirements: No disciplinary actions from last year or this one, good academic standing, and one teacher/club sponsor recommendation. Please visit the College and Career Center if you have any questions.
Help Our English Classes Get to the Theater
A play is not meant to be read, it is meant to be seen. Seeing live theater is an experience like no other. Each year, we have the opportunity to see a variety of plays at the Shakespeare Theater in Washington D.C. Over the last couple of years, we have taken students to see Shakespeare plays such as King Lear, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, plus other wonderful shows such as Peter Pan and Evita. This year's shows may include Comedy of Errors, Babbit, All the Devils are Here and Frankenstein. Because bus transportation is expensive, $30 just covers the cost per student. If a bus is not full, the price is higher per student. To keep these plays affordable for our students, and allow us to continue to offer these opportunities, please click here to make a small donation. Donations will reduce the per student cost of a trip; any money left over at the end of the school year will be put towards future field trips.
Thank you!
