Spanish 1 students finished reading the book “Piratas del Caribe y el Mapa Secreto”. As a demonstration of learning and reading comprehension, students needed to choose a chapter from the book, create a story board with at least four scenes, and add an explanation of their story in the target language, using vocabulary words learned during class. Here’s the amazing work of Nicholas (Nico) Burt, a student from my 1A class.
A Word From The English Department
Last month Sources of Strength (SOS) focused on the importance and benefits of engaging in nature. From a stroll through a city park to a day spent hiking in the wilderness, exposure to nature has been linked to a host of benefits, including improved attention, lower stress, better mood, reduced risk of mental health challenges and even upticks in empathy and cooperation.
This month, we are raising awareness on emotional triggers and how to widen your Window of Tolerance through research-based means to identify the roots of triggers, witness the impact these events have had on the body's somatic system, and then working to provide compassionate self-care to release the attachment to triggered responses.
For more information on the benefits of spending time in nature, check out our bulletin board by the front office or join us for a meeting on Thursdays at lunch in Dr. Moen's room (12).
