Parking Lot/Bike Safety
With the mild weather just around the corner, more students will be walking or riding their bicycles to school. This means everyone needs to follow the rules, stay alert and be courteous. A well-designed parking lot procedure should support the safe arrival and departure of all students, staff and parents. This includes those who walk, drive or get a ride. Although each school in the district may have a different parking lot layout, the procedures for safe drop off and pick up are always the same. The following procedures are to be followed regardless of the school your child may attend:
Never exceed 10 m.p.h. in the parking lot
Stay in the line of traffic and continue to move to the furthest point
Do not allow your child to walk through parked cars. Always drop off curbside
All students should exit from the passenger side doors. Make sure your child is on the sidewalk and a safe distance from your vehicle before slowly pulling away
Beware of loose clothing and backpacks that could get caught in your car door
If walking or biking to school encourage your child to always use crosswalks
Pedestrians should make eye contact with drivers before entering a crosswalk to ensure a safe crossing
Make sure bike riders wear helmets and walk their bicycles on the sidewalks once they enter school grounds
The wearing of bike helmets is law (N.J. Law 39:4-10.1). Please help us educate our students by making sure your child wears a helmet
Leave early, stay alert, be safe!!!!!!!!!!

Important Health Information
NJ DOH respiratory illness surveillance for last week shows a slight decrease in influenza outbreaks among schools. Flu B is the predominant strain. This year has been the most severe flu season in pediatrics in the past 5 years. Seasonal coronaviruses (colds) remain high.
Please continue to report symptoms when calling out your child sick. It is helpful to know what illnesses are in the building.
