Welcome to a New School Year
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new and returning families joining us this school year. My hopes are that you found time to create lasting memories with friends and family during our summer vacation.
As we approach the return of our students, the days become more and more filled with excitement. Our staff is hard at work to prepare our campus and classrooms for your child. There is nothing more rewarding than greeting our students and families on the first day of school and being able to start our year seeing those smiles as children enter our gates on the first day!
As we embark on a new year, I look forward to strengthening and building relationships with our families and community. Your ongoing support and cooperation, combined with our best professional efforts, will ensure continued academic success for every child at Marvin. We graciously welcome your support and are always seeking volunteers for the classroom, school events, etc. If interested, please fill out the appropriate forms that will be sent home with your child in our “Welcome Back” packet the first week of school.
This year, our site will continue our instructional focus on providing a rigorous and responsive curriculum which provides students with a strong foundation to support learning. Many of our staff members attended various training sessions throughout the summer to support their ongoing professional growth.
I look forward to a stellar school year!

COVID TESTING KITS
Prior to the first day of school , our district encourages at home COVID testing. Tests will be available in our front office this week from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Please see below for a few important details from our district.
At-home rapid antigen tests will be available to all students and should be used within 48 hours prior to entering campus for the first day of school.
If an individual tests positive on a rapid antigen test, please notify your school and do not come to school.
If your student has symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, cough, congestion, sore throat, vomiting or diarrhea, please keep them at home and contact the school for guidance.
There will be plenty of at home tests available the first week of school should any student need an at home test.
Teacher Assignments
As we launch our new school year, it is important to note that every elementary school in our district must abide by a formula that determines the number of teachers assigned to a school. Depending on site enrollment, there is a possibility we could maintain current teaching staff, gain or possibly lose a teacher. Any change in the total number of staff members assigned may result in a reorganization of existing classes. I ask that you please bear with us during this process. Rest assured, our staff has and will continue to work carefully at placing students into classrooms in accordance with district guidelines and equity with class sizes. However, it is important to state that all class assignments are currently temporary and subject to change within the first four weeks. Until we have locked in our final enrollment of students and allocation of teachers, no changes in class assignments will be made.
First Day of School
Families will be permitted to walk their child to class on the first day of school. In order to ensure the overall safety of our school community, our campus will remain a closed campus after the first day. Families will have many opportunities throughout the year to visit their child’s classroom during family workshops, school events, and when volunteering in the classroom.
Please note...Gates open at 7:30 a.m. Students may not arrive prior to 7:30 a.m. as there is no supervision. The instructional day begins at 7:50 a.m. and we ask for your support in ensuring students arrive at school no later than 7:45 a.m.
As you establish your routes to school, I urge you to abide by all traffic laws and use available sidewalks and crosswalks for the safety of our students. Families may drop off in the morning at the front of the school, at Hamlet Court or Eldridge Street. If planning to walk your child to the gate at the front of the school, please park in the neighborhood (refrain from dropping off or parking in the staff parking lot).
In the afternoon, UTK and K students will be picked up from their designated gate (classroom teacher will review at orientation). 1st through 5th grade students will be released from our joint use field. Families will receive a half sheet with their child's and the teacher's name to help expedite the pickup process. During the first week, we ask for your support by writing your child's name and his/her teacher's name on a sheet of paper to display on your dashboard when picking up at the end of the day.
Students in grade 3-5 may be released to walk home or exit alternate gates at Hamlet Court or Eldridge Street with parent permission. Please contact your child's teacher should you wish to have your child exit an alternate gate.

Approval of these calendars brings into consideration the several years of discussion with educational partners to move to a common traditional calendar districtwide as well as to begin the school year earlier with the goal to end the first semester in December.
