Lil Steamer Families --
Over the past several months, we have had numerous construction projects occurring at FES and throughout the district with our project group Veregy. Now that we are nearing the end of the first quarter, it is great to look back on all of the time, effort, and energy that went into this process to improve our schools and district overall.
Under my note this week is a button link to a video which summarizes the projects, high school internships, and comments from district leaders. I hope you enjoy it; the video really does a great job of telling our story!!
Have a great weekend,
JAGH

School anxiety is a real issue for some of our Lil Steamers. Depending on where you look, it can also be referred to as school refusal or school avoidance. While it may be difficult to get your students here, the best place for them to be is at school. Avoiding school will only make the anxiety more difficult to confront. Below are links to websites and articles that may help you help your child at home. As always, please communicate with the school if you have any concerns.
Enjoy the last weekend of September! 🍁🍂

Project Teach: What to Know About School Refusal to Support Your Child
From the Desk of: Counselor Meumann
Children looking at their phones past bedtimes creates issues. Children get less sleep than they need. Children should have 9-12 hours of sleep. If children don’t get that sleep, they then have a hard time focusing the next day, have a hard time staying awake, and they have a more difficult time getting along with others. If possible, keep their phones out of their rooms. Children have a hard time not looking at their phones if they are left in their rooms.
ABC Boot Camp Celebration
Students in KA completed their ABC Boot Camp on Friday. They have been working hard on learning letters and their sounds. They have also worked on writing the letters of the alphabet. To celebrate learning the 26 letters, students wore camo and were given Army helmets to wear for the day. Students played an Army syllable game and built Army towers during math!
A fun and special snack of popcorn and green juice was served the the mess hall! Students received a special certificate and a treat bag and picture to take home to remember their time in Boot Camp! We had a great time today!

House Sorting Day!
Each year, all Kindergarten and new students are sorted into one of four school houses: Anchor House, Bridge House, River House, or Wheel House. Each house has students from each grade K-5 and we do our best to keep families together. During House Days, students stay with their respective Houses as they work on various activities. We started our day about learning about different emotions acted out by staff.
For our House Day activities, students listened to paraprofessional Jared Dickman's story of overcoming adversity, students watched a video on perseverance and then completed problem solving activities, students used unusual objects to craft a device to get submerged goggles out from a bin filled with water, and students used various components to craft the tallest structure they could.
We then finished with our House Chants and our family chant of 4 Houses, 1 Family!!!
