March 2025 Edition

Greetings Wolfpack Families and Friends!!!
Greetings Wolfpack Families and Friends!
Welcome to the March edition of our monthly school newsletter. I hope this message finds each of you well. As we step into March, I want us to take a moment to reflect on the remarkable achievements and events that have occurred within our school community.
Our students continue to showcase outstanding dedication, with many achieving notable academic milestones. We have had students to compete and earn many accolades, including first place winners in the District Social Science Fair and the District Technology Innovation Competition. I commend their hard work and perseverance, as well as the unwavering support provided by our dedicated teachers and staff to make these achievements possible.
Beyond the classroom, our students have and are continuing to excel in various extracurricular activities, from sports to arts and beyond. One highlight was the Black History Month Program, which highlighted beautiful and well-orchestrated performances by many of our students and staff members. The commitment to personal growth and teamwork is beyond admirable and amazing, and we should be so proud of the accomplishments. Let’s continue to show our support as our students represent our school community.
Our school remains deeply committed to fostering a sense of community and inclusivity. As we did during the month of February, throughout March we will be organizing several events and initiatives aimed at strengthening bonds between students, parents, and staff. I encourage everyone to participate as we continue to build a vibrant school community. Stay tuned to our various social media outlets, newsletters and our webpage so you can know what is happening and remain involved.
As always, we strongly encourage open communication between parents and teachers. Your involvement and feedback are invaluable in ensuring the success of our school and fostering the well-being of our students. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
I want to again express my sincere gratitude to all of you for the continued support and dedication. Together, we are “Rebuilding the Legacy” of Jean Childs Young Middle School, one day at a time. Our future is incredibly bright!!!
With Gratitude,
Ronald Garlington - Principal

Museum of Illusions
On February 5th, 42 of our middle school engineering students embarked on an exciting field trip to the Museum of Illusions. This immersive experience allowed students to explore the fascinating world of optical illusions and interactive exhibits, aligning with our curriculum's focus on critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The visit directly supported learning objectives related to understanding the principles of light, perception, and the engineering design process. Students engaged in hands-on activities that challenged their creativity and encouraged collaboration, meeting key standards in STEM education. This memorable trip not only enhanced their understanding of scientific concepts but also inspired a deeper interest in the field of engineering.
Tellus Museum
On February 14th, 48 of our middle school engineering students visited the Tellus Science Museum, where they delved into the wonders of geology, paleontology, and astronomy. This enriching field trip aligned with our curriculum's emphasis on scientific inquiry and the engineering design process. Students explored interactive exhibits and participated in hands-on activities that reinforced their understanding of Earth's materials, fossil formation, and the principles of flight and space exploration. The visit supported key STEM education standards by fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative skills. This engaging experience not only deepened their knowledge of scientific concepts but also sparked a greater enthusiasm for engineering and the natural world.

School Climate Survey
The time of year has come when students, staff and parents begin participating in the Georgia School Climate Survey.
What is the Georgia School Climate Survey?
During this 2024-2025 school year, the Georgia School Climate Surveys (GSCS) for students, teachers, staff, and families will replace the Georgia Student Health Survey (GSHS), the Georgia Parent School Climate Survey (GPSCS), and the Georgia School Personnel Survey (GSPS). This new suite of surveys is aligned with Georgia’s Systems of Continuous Improvement, and is designed to provide more actionable data for district and school leaders to make schools a safer and more engaging place to learn. We have reduced the number of questions for students and eliminated the need for other GaDOE survey requirements. Added security measures are also in place to ensure more accurate data.
Where are the links to the surveys?
https://survey.gadoe.org/FM?sid=CAB5138F
What is the window for completing the survey?
The APS window goes from January 7th to March 14th.
