Rose Update

This week we were fortunate to have a guest teacher and coach from Apple who was providing professional learning for our staff. I want to recognize the incredible work our students did during their lessons with our guest teacher from Apple. They demonstrated curiosity, creativity, and a strong commitment to learning as they explored new ways to use technology to solve problems and create projects.

The Apple coach was especially impressed by our students’ positive behavior and excellent listening skills, noting how respectful and engaged they were throughout the sessions. What a fantastic reflection of the character and dedication we strive for every day!

A big thank you also goes to our wonderful teachers who opened up their classrooms for this special experience. Your flexibility and support made it possible for our students to engage in this innovative learning opportunity, and we are so grateful for your partnership.

Thank you to Apple for partnering with us and to our entire school community for showing what it means to be Stingray Strong!

The Lost & Found is overflowing! If your child is missing a lunchbox, water bottle or outdoor clothing, encourage them to check the Lost & Found. Students are able to access the Lost & Found every day in the cafeteria.

Author Mac Barnett & Illustrator Shawn Harris stopped by Rose School on their whirlwind book tour showcasing their new book, The First Cat in Space and the Wrath of the Paperclip. Miss Meiser has read the beginning of the first book in the series,The First Cat in Space Ate Pizza to students in grades 2-5. All families are welcome to purchase books on RevTrak. Purchased books will be autographed, but due to the short length of the visit, not personalized. Sales close today on November 15. Join BStrong Together for a FREE screening of the documentary film Screenagers: Elementary School Age Edition on Thursday, November 21 at 7pm in the Prairie Campus Library. This new version of the original Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age film explores the profound effects that increased screen time can have on children's mental health. Learn about the challenges that elementary school-aged children, parents, and educators face in today’s digital world and discover practical strategies to help support their mental health and well-being. Following the film there will be a a Q&A discussion with local area experts including Barrington 220's Assistant Superintendent for Technology & Innovation, Dr. Matt Fuller. Do you have gently used pants? We are looking for donations, especially in sizes XS and S for both genders.

We would also appreciate donations of new underwear, especially sizes XS and S for both genders. New socks are appreciated, too!

Rose will be hosting a gift card drive this year to help families in our school community. Gift cards will be used for a variety of reasons including purchasing winter gear for children.

During parent teacher conferences, please take a look in our front lobby and pick up a reminder tag for places like Jewel, Target, and Wal-Mart. Return that tag with the gift card to the front office at your earliest convenience.

The Barrington 220 Fine Arts Department proudly presents the 5th Annual Winter Wonderfest! Winter Wonderfest runs December 13-14, and it will be an open house with activities happening primarily inside the new front atrium addition at BHS. The event will include DJs, carnival games, holiday crafts, hot chocolate for purchase, and more! Tickets are now available through our online box office.

This fall Barrington 220 is launching a book study called One Book, One Community Read! The book study, hosted by our District Equity Team, aligns with the Inclusive Education priority in our district’s strategic plan, Framework 220.

The book study will feature the book Breaking the Code with Gabriella, written by current BHS students Hafsah Khan, Cindy Wang, and 2024 graduate Sarah Pinto. BTCWG is a story about the fight for inclusivity and belonging in STEM spaces, following the story of a young girl, Gabriella, who joins her robotics team as the only girl.

If you did not get your free copy of Breaking the Code with Gabriella during Parent-Teacher Conferences, please let your child's teacher or the front office know, and we will gladly send one home with your child.

We will culminate this community-wide read with a special fireside chat featuring our student authors at the annual Winter Wonderfest celebration at BHS on December 13! It will be a wonderful opportunity to engage with the authors, hear their perspectives, and celebrate the inclusive themes of the book.
