January 14, 2025
The new year is in full swing!
As we embark on a new year filled with exciting possibilities, I extend my warmest greetings to our students, families, and staff. I am incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work everyone in our school district demonstrated. The opening of our state-of-the-art Regional Innovation Center this second semester marks a significant milestone. This new facility will provide our students with unparalleled learning opportunities and foster a renewed sense of pride and ownership within our community. As we conclude Vision 2025 and prepare for a community-wide Grand Opening celebration of the Regional Innovation Center (date to be announced), we will also embark on a new strategic planning process. I am confident that we will continue to build on our successes and create a brighter future for all students in our district.
Sincerely,
Sincerely,
Joe Stutting, Superintendent

#Lancerpride
The school board celebrated 3 families at the board meeting on January 13th. The individuals present to accept the awards were Brad Kesley, Linda Tubbs, and Ken Schoenthaler.
Drama Boosters: Brad and Jolynn Kelsey
Jolynn, our esteemed Drama Boosters President (though not pictured), finds the greatest joy in collaborating closely with our talented staff and students. Both Jolynn and her husband, Brad, are passionate supporters of our young thespians, cherishing every moment of their growth journey.
- Jolynn is the current president of the boosters
- favorite part of Drama Boosters is working closely with the staff and students.
- love supporting our kids and watching them grow throughout the process of theater.
- The highlight of our volunteer experience has been getting to chaperone the Iowa Thespian Festival this fall. We were so honored to see the students participate and succeed in their events and to watch the entire group work cohesively to get RadiumGirls set up on stage.
- Would also like everyone to know that Drama Boosters is a collaboration of many great volunteers and we are just two of those individuals.
As proud alumni of Lancer Productions, Brad and Jolynn continue to embody its spirit with unwavering dedication. From concessions and Speech Contests to Dinner Theatre and State Festival support, their tireless efforts have been invaluable. Their extraordinary commitment to our students and program is deeply appreciated
Linda Tubbs
This honor recognizing Linda Tubbs also celebrates the life and legacy of her late husband, Bill, who passed away last fall. Bill and Linda were pillars of our community. Their dedication to the North Scott Press and their unwavering support for students and local organizations like the Scott County Library profoundly impacted our community.
Linda, a former educator and co-owner of the North Scott Press, has devoted her life to service. She served on numerous boards, including the Scott County Library System, where she led the capital campaign. Her commitment to education continues through her volunteer work with GED candidates.
The Tubbs family has generously supported countless initiatives that enrich our community, leaving an enduring legacy of kindness and generosity. We extend our deepest gratitude to Linda and honor the memory of Bill.
Ken "Shoeny" Schoenthaler, Mayor of Donahue
We extend our sincere gratitude to Ken "Schoeny" Schoenthaler. His wisdom and guidance have been invaluable in fostering the growth and well-being of our entire community.
Schoeny's contributions to the District have been multifaceted. His efforts have positively impacted numerous areas, including:
- Enhanced Student Safety: The safe room at John Glenn Elementary stands as a testament to his dedication to student safety.
- Support of Youth Development: Schoeny has been a staunch supporter of the North Scott Explorer program, ensuring its continued success.
- Strengthening Rural Emergency Response: He has played a crucial role in replenishing the ranks of firefighters and EMTs in our rural communities, enhancing emergency preparedness.
Whenever our community has faced challenges or sought solutions, Schoeny has consistently stepped forward as a valuable resource. His tireless efforts in support of our community are deeply appreciated."

Don't Drive with a Snow/Ice-Covered Windshield - It's Not Just Dangerous,
It's Against the Law in Iowa!
As winter weather sets in, it's important to remember that driving with a snow-covered windshield is not only unsafe but also illegal in Iowa. A clear windshield is crucial for safe driving, as it allows you to see the road, other vehicles, and pedestrians clearly.
What You Need to Do:
Clear all snow and ice from your windshield, side windows, mirrors, and headlights before driving.
Take extra time in the winter to remove any build-up from your vehicle.
Be sure your windshield wipers and defroster are working properly to maintain clear visibility during your drive.
Hello Lancers!
Iowa laws are based on two things: safety and good manners. If the behavior is unsafe or unacceptable, there is probably a law against it. One such example is when we are crossing the street. Please know that crossing the street anywhere other than a crosswalk is dangerous and illegal, and it could bring consequences that include paying a fine or getting seriously injured. This also includes not using the crosswalk properly.
The charges that exist could be as follows:
1. Pedestrian failing to use crosswalk $95.25
2. Pedestrian disobeying a traffic control signal $95.25
3. Disorderly Conduct by obstructing a street with the intent to prevent or hinder its lawful use by others. $65 - $625
A student could also face consequences by the North Scott School Administration,
including the revocation of parking permits and other repercussions. This is
Officer Jahns asking you to be safe, use the crosswalk, stop and wait, don’t meet
your fate and look both ways before it’s too late.

Important Transportation Update for Parents/Guardians
To ensure the safety and efficiency of our school transportation system, students are required to ride only the bus they are assigned to. This policy helps us maintain accurate attendance and ensure that every student arrives home safely.
Exceptions can be made for consistent changes related to childcare needs on early release days. If your child requires a permanent change to their bus route due to a regular childcare arrangement, please contact Derek Hamilton, Transportation Supervisor at 563-285-9801 to discuss these accommodations. All requests must be arranged in advance.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us keep all students safe.
North Scott Food Services - 2024-25 Free and Reduced Meal Applications are being accepted
