Park Terrace Elementary
October 30, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
Greetings Park Terrace Families,
November is almost here. Remember that we do not have school this Friday, November 1. Staff will continue to participate in professional learning around engagement through literacy. As I previously shared, all educators in Minnesota are spending significant time this year to deepen our skill set in the area of teaching reading. I’ve already seen our teachers implement so many strategies with our students, leading towards deeper engagement and improved reading.
Thanks for the recent conversations at conferences. We had high engagement in meeting with families over the last few weeks. The students were also excited to hear that our staff were meeting with their families. They were excited to show off what they’ve learned so far this year! If you have any lingering questions, please reach out!
This week, I want to share some highlights from third grade. Students have been learning about timelines – both mathematical and historical timelines. Combining literacy and social studies, students have been reading about the significance of Ellis Island and ordering the events that immigrant families encountered. In math, students are using what they know about mental math to identify “blanks” on a number line. It’s fun to see how students use mental gymnastics to formulate their thinking and share it with their peers and teachers.
Tomorrow is Halloween, and we know many students and families participate in a variety of Halloween-inspired activities. Please remember that we do not celebrate Halloween during the school day. Please keep any costumes and treats at home to enjoy after school.
Join us at our next PTA meeting on Wednesday, November 6 at 5 p.m. We’d love to see you there!
Have a great week!
Lindsay
Issues with MyStop app
If you have bus riders in your household and use the MyStop app, please be aware that the app is experiencing issues. Due to a software configuration problem, the MyStop app (that provides real time bus route information) is not functioning properly. All of the entities that support the app are actively working to correct the problem. Transportation will notify bus riding families when the issues has been resolved. Thank you for your patience. Any questions can be directed to transportation@district16.org.

Spring Lake Park Schools has approximately 1,100 PreK-12 students in Spanish Immersion programming. Over the years, we've discovered several reasons why families choose immersion. For many, beyond language acquisition, immersion programing comes with a variety of other benefits that set students up for success in a diverse, multilingual world.
Check out eight of the most common reasons families choose immersion and make sure to share this article with family, friends and neighbors who may be considering immersion for their child.
