Message from Mr. Hamacher
Good evening, Liberty Middle School Parents.
Students will take the NWEA Fall Assessment make-ups for mathematics and reading next week. Students are taking these assessments in their social studies and science classes. Advisory teachers will be reviewing the scores with students and discussing their progress toward their end-of-year goals. Scores will be available to parents in Skyward in about a week or two. Please be sure that your students bring their iPad fully charged to school each day.
Per our District and Building Safety Plan, we conduct various monthly safety drills. On September 12, 2024, Liberty Intermediate/Middle School will be conducting an Armed Intruder Drill.
Per Indiana Code (IC) 10-21-1-10, during armed intruder drills, Liberty Intermediate/Middle schools will: conduct the drill in a practical nature (initiate a school-wide lockdown); have accommodations for students who have mobility restrictions, sensory needs, or auditory or visual limitations; provide access to mental health services on school grounds following the conclusion of a drill; and provide alternative exercises for students who are unable to participate in a drill.
Our LMS football, volleyball, and cross country teams have all started their seasons and have done well! Clubs are having call-out meetings and also getting going! It's an exciting time of year.
Respectfully,
Mike Hamacher, LMS Principal
Cell Phone Policy
In accordance with Indiana Code, please see the new cell phone policy below. Please take some time to share this with you child. Thank you!
Wireless Communication Devices
Per IC 20-26-5-40.7 - The use of wireless communication devices, including but not limited to cellular telephones, tablet computers, laptop computers, gaming devices, smartwatches, etc. is strictly prohibited during academic class periods unless explicitly authorized by the teacher for educational purposes.
Students are permitted to use a wireless communication device in the event of a health or safety emergency or to manage health care as specifically defined in the student’s Individualized Health Plan (IHP), Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and/or Section 504 Plan.
A wireless communication device is defined by Indiana law as any portable wireless device that has the capability to provide voice, messaging, or other data communication between two (2) or more parties.
Electronic devices can aid or hinder the learning experience in a school environment. With this in mind, cell phones are not permitted to be visible/audible in the classrooms, hallways or lunchrooms at any time.
ATTENTION BUS RIDERS!!
WE WANT TO BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION THAT STUDENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO RIDE THE BUS HOME WITH FRIENDS THAT DO NOT SHARE THE THE SAME DESIGNATED BUS ROUTE. THE DECISION HAS BEEN MADE WITH THE UTMOST CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL OUR STUDENTS.
Say Something Anonymous Reporting System
Parents & Guardians,
Everyone deserves to feel safe and supported while they are on our campuses every day. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority -- and requires a proactive approach to violence prevention. That is why the Duneland School Corporation is happy to have the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System.
We will be training our students on when and how to use it on September 10, 2024.
The Say Something Anonymous Reporting System is a research-based violence prevention program offered by Sandy Hook Promise, a national nonprofit organization. It teaches the warning signs of potential violence or self-harm and provides students and staff with secure ways to share safety concerns through a mobile app, website, or phone call.
Simply put, this program will further enhance the student protections we already have in place.
More than 5,000 schools nationwide have launched this program to date. Administrators and school staff report that their students already feel safer—and lives have already been saved.
We have included information about what the app is, how students can use it, and why we have adopted it in our schools below.
Sincerely,
Mr. Hamacher, Principal
