Greetings Evergreen Families,

Happy Groundhog's Day! Punxsutawney Phil, saw his shadow and predicted the year would see an extra long winter. Let's hope this prediction is incorrect as Phil's has a 40% correction rate over the years.

We certainly can expect that children and staff will get sick during the school year. Last week we were hit hard by communicable diseases. We appreciate everyone's support in and out of school. The Building Service team was providing extra layers of cleaning at night. Nurse Ricketts and parents teamed up to monitor and communicate. The staff talked with the students about the importance of hand washing. There are two videos below if interested. We are hopeful that this week will be a restart in the right direction.

We love 💚having our students in school! If your child came home and mentioned, Ms. Fowler may kiss a pig, well let me explain. During our January Community Gathering, I set up a February attendance challenge for students to hit the target of 94% for this month. Currently we are at 93.5% and the MSDE target is 94%. If they achieve this goal, I will either kiss a pig, say hello to a whip cream pie, or get taped to the wall. Yes, we have options.

Sharing: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement - Many citizens are concerned about reports in the media relative to ICE Raids and want to know how their local school systems plan to handle the issue. SMCPS will adhere to the guidance provided by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Please read A Guide for Students, Families, and Local Education Agencies on the MSDE website. Our actions are bound by law, and our administrative staff consistently ensures compliance.

It is unbelievable that on February 6th, we will celebrate the 100th Day of School!!
