English Language Arts has been pretty exciting so far this year!!! We just completed our unit over “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson. I am sure you heard about some of our activities with marbles and stones. “The Lottery” was selected to entice your child’s imagination and release the flood gates of creativity…and it did just that! I am SO impressed with your child’s ability to think critically. This is a crucial skill that, when developed properly, will carry them throughout high school and into college.
For our next unit, we are diving deep into “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell. This story has a hunting theme, lots of drama, and a sneaky twist. This reading selection is overflowing with high order vocabulary and metaphors that will challenge your child to think outside the box!!!
I am also very excited about our writing! Currently, your child is required to include five (5) elements within each writing assignment: complete sentences; proper punctuation; capitalization; seven (7) words per sentence; and a minimum five (5) sentences per paragraph. If you get a chance to read their work, please do so! I think you will be very impressed with their writing skills.
Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your child’s education. They make my day, every day!
See you at Curriculum Night!!!

Math News
In math, we have been reviewing converting fractions, decimals, and percents. Students completed a Grid Project to apply converting skills to a pix-elated picture. Integer operations are an important part of 7th grade. We reviewed these and added multiple steps which required applying the order of operations. We have practiced classifying rational numbers using Venn Diagrams. All of these topics will be included on the Rational Numbers Test that is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15th. Honors students have also studied scientific notation, square roots, estimating square roots, and irrational numbers which will all be included on the Honors Math Test on Tuesday, September 15th. Next week, we will be studying fraction operations. Extra Credit corrections submitted on or before September 14th will be recorded in Parent Portal in separate entries prior to progress reports. Weekly Skills are take home quizzes that are assigned on Fridays and are due the following Friday. Please see the attached syllabus for more detailed information about 7th grade math.
