Science
Hello scientists!
This week things got heavy as we explored gravity through a reading, some graphing exercises, and a jumping lab! Next week we will complete a Gizmo about gravity and then return to earlier concepts from this unit such as the life cycle of a star and will spend time preparing for our Earthβs Place in the Universe summative, which will take place on Monday February 10th.
Below are the links to Blookets (quiz study games) for the summative. Students can access them on a phone, computer, or tablet!

*morph=shape, form (think: metamorphic, morphology)
-ic=like, of (scientific, biologic)
*sed= sit, settle, rest (think: sedimentary, sediment, sedentary)
Keepers: angle, deci, semi
As we approach the 3rd quarter, the science classroom is looking forward to more fun labs, including one of our messiest yet β the Oreo Moon Phases Lab! Before we can have fun getting messy, we need some cleaning supplies as the room is almost out. If they are able, science students are asked to bring 2 of the following:
A roll of paper towels
A container of cleaning wipes
A box of tissues
A box of pencils
Printer Paper
World Geography
Last Week students participated in their UN simulation with speeches for their countries. They continued their simulation with a formal and informal debate format, closing out with voting on final resolutions for our education committee. They closed out their week with Journey's to School documentary.
This Week students will close out of unit 4 exploring Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). We will launch into Unit 5 mid week, on East Asia with mapping and glossary words. Students should prepare to study over the weekend. They will review their mapping materials for jeopardy review game Monday, 2/10 so that they will do well on their East Asia map quiz, Tuesday, 2/11.
English Language & Arts (ELA)
Urgent Need: Tissue boxes and Clorox wipes. We are running dangerously low during flu season.
Weekly Homework Update:
Students are starting Quill lessons. They must complete 4 lessons a week. To complete these lessons, they should go to Quill.org and choose the Log in through Clever option.
Note about book reports: Just a reminder that monthly book reports for students are due on the LAST DAY of every month. If your student is unsure of their options for projects, it is on Canvas under Announcements. Due to how many students there are on the team and the rigorous grading for other assignments that my attention requires, I cannot accept book reports in multiple different modalities. Please make sure that students have their projects turned in on paper. Sometimes printing is an unreliable option, I highly recommend that if students are doing projects on the computer, they should try to turn it in early because if it does not print, they need to have a contingency plan.
Summative Essay Notice:
Students are completing a summative essay this week, please be aware this will account for a large portion of their term 3 grade.
Weekly Agenda:
Monday β Reviewing student examples of comparative writing
Tuesday β Reading Eleven and gathering evidence
Wednesday β Reading Scholarship Jacket and gathering evidence
Thursday β Introductory paragraphs
Friday β Writing essay day
