Eagle Express - September 20th, 2024
Good afternoon Arrowwood Families,
Over the next couple of weeks, we will have lots of events coming up. Please be sure to stay tuned to our calendar and social media for reminders and more information. Homecoming Week is the week of September 23rd. We will have spirit days and be walking in the parade. We invite all of our students to walk with us and our float but ALL STUDENTS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT to walk.
Please also consider supporting our PTO with the fall fundraiser. Packets should be coming home with students today and paper orders will need to be returned by October 4th to school. Through this fundraising the PTO has been able to add additional technology, playground additions, Hartley scholarships, and more for the Eagles. If you have any questions about the fundraiser, please contact the Arrowwood PTO at arrowwoodPTO@stcs.org.

What's Happening Around Arrowwood?

Battle of the Books
Arrowwood Elementary 2024-2025 will be participating in a program called Battle of the Books!
America’s Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program for 3rd, 4th & 5th grade students. The purpose is simply to encourage students to read good books and have fun while competing with peers.
How does a student participate?
Students participate by reading from the book list provided for that year’s Battle of the Books. Students may count books they have read before. Once we choose groups/teams, a book list will be provided to students.
They must read the book or have the book read aloud to them. They should keep a summary so they can review before their school battle. I recommend a notebook they can keep by their bed, so when they are finished reading their book, they can write a brief summary and any important details they want to remember! The books may be checked out at Arrowwood’s Library or any Local public library.
What is the “Battle?”
A typical “Battle” is a tournament, like a college bowl, in which student’s teams earn points by answering questions about the books on the book list. Students will be placed into teams so they can coordinate and discuss their books throughout the year. They will play several rounds during the school day, each against a different team. At the end of the day, the last two teams with the most points are invited to a “Grand Battle” with the other teams as their audience. After the winner of the “Grand Battle” is crowned, they will go on to compete against Weiss via Google Meet. Third, Fourth and Fifth graders will be reading from a 12-book list.
If you would like for your child to participate, please fill out the permission slip and return to their teacher no later than September 30th. Mrs. Watson in the library can identify and coordinate teams! If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Watson at clwatson@stcs.org or (989)797-1835 ext. 2301.

Morning Dismissal Reminders - Release students at 7:25 AM when staff member present
Thank you for your help and support in the parking lot to ensure a safe arrival and dismissal for our students.
- For student's safety, do not release students from vehicles until a staff member is stationed at the crosswalk at 7:25 AM. Students are unsupervised until this time.
- Vehicles using the parking lot should park in a designated parking space and escort their student to the crosswalk. This area is not a second drive through drop off lane and we almost had a student injured by a car because it's such a busy place in the morning.
- Please note that you can pull all the way up along the sidewalk and students can be released anywhere on the sidewalk.
- As one of our families shared previously, have your student in "paratrooper mode" so that they are ready to quickly hop out of the car to prepare for learning and keep the lining moving efficiently for all of our families. The drop off line moves quick when everyone is ready.
