Congratulations on your solo performances Saturday! Some of the best comments I heard from the judges was "there was some heartfelt musical communication", "skillful performances", "amazing sounding kids" and "WOW, what do you feed these kids".

I am so glad that you all had a NORMAL MUSICAL EXPERIENCE and were able to explore your musical expression with assistance from a highly trained musical professional in the form of your accompanist. The accompanists were thrilled with your performances...they have LOTS of stories about kids playing music over the years, so I would take it as a huge compliment.

The Band Gala is a long standing tradition in TWB. EVERYONE attends. Normally it is free for all members; however, we did not have any fundraising this year, so there is a $10 cost for this year only.

• Cost: $10 per person (if you can't afford this, please see Mr. Dixon...he's got you covered)
• Can you invite someone not in band? - YES, they just can't be ugly.
• Attire: Groovy Informal or Chic Casual (both of these are made up terms so don't ask). You can wear anything from a tuxedo down to Hawaiian shirts. Just have fun with it.

• EAT BEFORE YOU ARRIVE....food is complicated these days. Go have a picnic, eat with friends at your house or eat at one of our fine establishments in Wylie, like Whataburger.

TWB members and parents,

To make the marching show as impactful as possible next year, we need to recruit another 15-20 members, giving us the biggest guard we have ever had (@50). THIS WILL BE HUGE. If you know of anyone you want to travel with or would you think would enjoy the performance aspect of performing for huge crowds (can't wait for next year) have them get in touch with Mr. Dixon or Mr. Jackson.

If they have any dance experience or gymnastic experience, that is awesome; however, it is not a prerequisite.

This will take all of us to reach out and recruit for the show "BELLS"....this thing is going to be off the charts!

If you know of anyone that quit band in high school, or just didn't take band in high school that would like to come back, please let us know or have them contact us. This past year was strange but next year is going to be AMAZING! We want everyone to have an excellent experience, so tell your friends to jump back in. WE ARE ESPECIALLY IN NEED OF TRUMPET AND SAXOPHONE. We will be traveling a lot and performing WAY more next year. Track your friends down and tell them that we want them back.

Sectionals are over for the year! Please be in your seat warming up 10 minutes before the start of the rehearsal in order to get set up and warm up properly.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

• Monday 5/3- In-class Band Music Recordings. Remote students will join us in class like what we did before UIL. Last week was too busy to get this project done, but Monday is the perfect day. Those of you with Monday lessons, please reach out to your teachers and ask to reschedule for the week. With 3 asynchronous days next week, you should be able to provide plenty of alternative times.
• Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday 5/4, 5/5, 5/6- The days you are not testing, you will need to practice and master your Spring Concert music and Audition Music (due Friday, 5/7). Fanfare, Danza, Illumination, Stars and Stripes (memorized), School Song (memorized), and Fight Song (memorized).

MAY 17th: Start of basics camp!

Lots of little date changes happening at the end of the year this year. This date moved a little. It is traditionally on a Monday; however, Senior Awards were moved to that same Monday this year, so in every effort to avoid conflicts with choir concert and all sorts of banquets, it was moved to a Wednesday.

This will be a come and go for our audience; however, we will keep students there for the entire concert to do our traditional senior recognition and grand finale with the entire band. Here are is the initial information.

Wylie ISD has approved the school calendar for 2021-22. This includes a fall break; however, all athletic and fine arts contests, rehearsals and productions will still run during that week. Meaning, even though WISD has a fall break scheduled, there will still be a football game and contests. This means there will be rehearsals too. Below is our plan for that week, so if you are looking to go away some time, here are the dates we will have games, rehearsals and contests.

OCTOBER 8-16 Schedule

• Friday, October 8 - Football Game (4:30PM-11PM)
• Saturday, October 9 - McKinney Marching Invitational (we are the defending champs)
• Sunday, October 10-Wednesday, October 13 (4 days) - NO REHEARSAL
• Thursday, October 14 - Varsity Marching Rehearsal 9AM-4PM
• Friday, October 15 - Football Rehearsal and Game (2:00PM-11PM)
• Saturday, October 16 - UIL Regional Marching Contest (advancement to Area Level)
