Principal's Corner
Dear Godwin Heights Middle School Families,
As we head into Thanksgiving break (school only Monday and Tuesday), I want to remind everyone that when we return, there will be just 15 school days until the end of the semester. Final exams are scheduled for December 18, 19, and 20, so it’s important that we encourage our students to finish strong.
We know our students have been working hard all semester, and we recognize how tired they might feel at this point. To support their success, we continue to provide after-school tutoring and morning teacher support during breakfast on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please note that the last day to turn in any missing assignments is December 13th.
As we take this time to reflect and recharge, I want to express how truly grateful I am for each of our students and for the opportunity to lead this amazing school community. Thank you for your partnership in helping our students thrive.
Have a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving break!

Pre-Arranging Absences
The semester is flying by, and the holidays are fast approaching! As we prepare for 1st semester exams on December 18-20, please remember that every moment of instruction is important.
If your student needs to be away for reasons other than illness or family death, the following form must be filled out in advance for the absence to be excused.
We understand that holidays may lead to extended absences, so please help your child and their teachers plan ahead by reporting any extended absences early. This will help your student stay on track and avoid falling behind. For more information about attendance, please contact Dolores Perez at ext. 3001 or via email at dolores.perez@godwinschools.org.
Upcoming MAP Growth Testing: What You Need to Know
Beginning the week of December 2, students will take a reading and a mathematics MAP Growth test. A MAP Growth test is a summary of how your child is performing academically. These tests and scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.
MAP Growth tests are unique, and they adapt to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.
The specific schedule is listed below. Please do your best to ensure your child is present on these days.
Thursday, Dec. 5= Reading
Wednesday, Dec. 11= Math

Upcoming Exams
1st Semester Exams will be held Wednesday, December 18, Thursday, December 19, and Friday, December 20th.

Art Classes Honor Veterans and Military Members
Our middle schoolers have been working on a special project in honor of Veterans and Military Members! They’ve created a display by the first stairwell in the hallway near the main office, showcasing posters that pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve, in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Students in our Computer Application course also crafted QR codes that link to their presentations about each military branch, providing a deeper dive into their importance and contributions.
