From Your Pastors
Dear Zion family –
We’re gearing up for a big and busy weekend at Zion. This Sunday is Commitment Sunday where we, as a family of faith, will pledge what we intend to give to Zion for the coming year. If you call Zion home, you should have received a letter from the pastors along with a pledge card. Please bring the pledge card with you to worship this weekend. If you did not receive a letter and pledge card, or if you forget to bring your card to worship, we’ll also have cards in the sanctuary or worship center that you can fill out so you can be a part of this important and moving moment.
In addition to Commitment Sunday, this Sunday is also our blood drive from 9 am to 1 pm. The bloodmobile will be outside the gym. If you haven’t signed up yet, you can still walk up. Give the gift of life – literally – by giving blood!
After the 10:45 am service, join us for a time of food and fellowship in the lobby followed by a voters’ meeting at 1 pm in the worship center. We’ll be sharing some important information about some exciting things we’re looking forward to in our beloved church and school.
In worship, we’ll wrap up our series “Give | Save | Live” where we’ve been looking at what God has to say about our finances. This weekend, we’ll look at the importance of contentment and consider an important reminder from the apostle Paul in 1 Timothy 6:6-10:
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
Paul says that rather than always chasing more, we are called to be content with what God has already given us. Do you ever struggle with contentment? Learn more about the peace contentment can bring this Sunday in worship. We worship at 8 am in our beautiful historic sanctuary, at 10:45 am in our wonderful worship center, or online at zionwalburg.org.
Your pastors love you!
– Pastor Zach, Pastor Kevin & Pastor Kyle
Sanctuary Bible Class Sunday, October 20—Dr. Jerry Kieschnick
Topic: Seven Myths of Estate Planning and what the Bible has to say about some of these myths.
Myth #1:
“I’m not wealthy enough to consider planned giving.”
Myth #2:
“Our estate plan was completed thirty years ago so we should be OK.”
Myth #3:
“I’m too young to think or talk about death and dying. Maybe I’ll be ready for that someday but not right now.”
Myth #4:
“If I don’t have a will, my family will be able to figure it out.”
Myth #5:
“Charitable estate planning advisors only want me to include the church in my plan, not my family.”
Myth #6:
“No need to make a list of what I own. My family will be able to find it all.”
Myth #7:
“It’s too depressing to make plans for my funeral service. I’ll let my kids make those decisions.”
Additional Topic: “All the bad things that can happen if you die without a will.”
Wurstbraten 2024
Wurstbraten is fast approaching, and your help is needed! This event provides opportunities to meet new friends and catch-up with many Zion members. Making sausage is always more fun when lots of people are involved. On Saturday, November 2, we need volunteers, starting at 7:00 a.m. There are also MANY opportunities November 1-5 to help. Sign-up sheets are in the Narthex and Lobby or click the button below. Please take the time to sign up, even if you can only commit to a few hours and BRING A FRIEND!
Wurstbraten tickets will be available at the Wurstbraten poster area Sunday after 8 a.m. service and before 10:45 a.m. service. $15.00 payable to Zion Lutheran Church.
2025 Offering Envelopes
Zion will be ordering offering envelopes for 2025 soon. If you no longer use/need paper offering envelopes, please inform the Church Office (512-863-3065, church@zionwalburg.org) so that we don't reorder envelopes for you next year. Thank you!"
Chickens & Crosses
Some chickens (not live ones) were left in the Gymnasium. If they are yours, please contact the Church Office 512-863-3065.
Also, did someone donate a box of crosses to the church? They were found in the hallway.
Iron Sharpens Iron
November 10th, 5:30-7:30pm Zion Worship Center
Men- the simple Bible verse of John 20:21 says "Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” Have you felt the tug to tell someone about Jesus or have examples/stories you would like to share in addition to learning more about sharing your faith?
The next Iron Sharpens Iron will focus on examples and stories of sharing your faith as well as how to grow in sharing your faith. Pastor Zach will be our moderator and teacher in helping us learn and grow in this aspect of our walk with Jesus!
We invite you to (anonymously) submit stories and examples of sharing your faith, along with questions you may have about sharing your faith to the email zionwalburg.isi@gmail.com . These questions and stories will be shared/discussed on that evening as information for us to grow and learn about sharing our faith!
We look forward to seeing you there! As always, there will be a free meal and time to get to know each other!
Voters Meeting 10.20.24
The next regularly scheduled Voters Meeting will be held Sunday, October 20 at 1:00pm in the Worship Center. Childcare will be available in the Gym. Come learn more about what is happening at Zion and be a part of the decision-making body of believers.

October is Church Worker Appreciation Month. We want to encourage members to show their appreciation to church workers personally. Please be encouraged to show them your appreciation. These are a few easy to show your appreciation:
-write them a letter of encouragement
-make their family time essential in the church schedule
-cook them food or bake a dessert
-purchase a gift card
-take their family our to eat
-watch their kids for a day
Thank you for your consideration,
President Newman and TX District LCMS
Thank You
On behalf of the Miriam (Mimi) Kalmbach family, a heartfelt thank you for all of the prayers, thoughts, cards, time, visits, calls, encouraging words, and ‘Mimi memories’. Our family will forever remember your kind expressions of love and sympathy. A special thank you to the pastors and church staff for the incredible service! We are grateful for every part of the Celebration of Mimi’s Life from the planning, bell ringing, programs, floral handling, ushers, message, music, technical support, livestream, memorial communications, and use of the beautiful sanctuary. It was a wonderful day as we celebrated our beautiful Mimi, and on behalf of our entire family we sincerely thank you!
