Together Sailing Toward Success: Principal's Message
V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N is Near!
Dear Sippican School Families,
As we approach the week before April vacation, we wanted to take a moment to connect with you and share some exciting happenings at Sippican School. The energy and engagement we see from our students and staff continue to inspire us, and we are so grateful for the strong partnership we share with all of you. We are truly enjoying being part of the Sippican School community and look forward to all that the remainder of the school year holds.
This coming week is particularly special as we are thrilled to host our annual Arts in Action Celebration on Wednesday! This wonderful event showcases the incredible talent and creativity of our students across various art forms. We encourage you to join us if your schedule allows, as it's a fantastic opportunity to witness the hard work and passion our children have poured into their artistic endeavors. It's always a highlight of the year and a true testament to the importance of the arts in education.
Looking ahead to Friday, we will also be holding an All School Meeting. This is a valuable time for our entire school community – students, faculty, and staff – to come together. We will be celebrating achievements, sharing important updates, and fostering our strong sense of school spirit. These gatherings are essential for reinforcing our values and building connections amongst everyone at Sippican School. We wish you all a wonderful week ahead, filled with learning, creativity, and community spirit, as we head into a well-deserved April vacation.
Warmly,
Principal Dessert &
Assistant Principal Thomas
Mission Statement and School-Wide Expectations
Our Mission Statement:
The mission of our school district is to inspire all students to think, learn, and care. Sippican School is committed to fostering a respectful, responsible, and kind learning environment. We've launched the "3 to Be" initiative to remind our community of these important values.
"Sippican 3 to Be"
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be Kind
Let's Get Moving with Recess!
We believe outdoor recess is a wonderful part of the school day for all our students. We'll only have indoor recess if the weather is really bad. To ensure everyone's safety during playtime, could you please help us by making sure your child is dressed appropriately? Certain types of footwear, like decorative shoes and flip-flops, can sometimes pose a safety concern when kids are running and playing. For this reason, we kindly discourage flip-flops and other open-toed shoes for recess. We highly recommend sneakers as the best choice for active play.
Fly Five: The Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum
We are excited to introduce Responsive Classroom's Fly Five: The Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum. It is a standards-aligned curriculum for kindergarten through eighth grade. Fly Five supports the development of academic and behavioral outcomes through the teaching of developmentally appropriate skills. These skills overarchingly develop a students’ interpersonal and intrapersonal competencies aligned to C.A.R.E.S. (cooperation, assertiveness, responsibility, empathy, and self-control). Fly five provides developmentally appropriate standards and skills that illuminate what a socially and emotionally competent learner should know and be able to do. Interactive lessons make Fly Five a remarkable resource for prioritizing social and emotional learning that meets each and every classroom’s unique needs. This year, the curriculum will be piloted in several classrooms in each elementary school and at the junior high. If your child’s classroom will be part of the pilot, you will receive a copy of the Family Guide that will provide you with more information. There will be an informational night for families on April 14th in the ORR Junior High School Media Center at 6pm. If you have any questions, please contact Jaime Curley at jaimecurley@oldrochester.org or 508-758-2772, ext 1942.
Integrated Monitor Review
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Office of Public School Monitoring (PSM) will conduct an Integrated Monitoring Review of Old Rochester Regional School District & Massachusetts Superintendency Union #55 during the week of May 12, 2025. Each school district, charter school, vocational school, and virtual school undergoes an Integrated Monitoring Review every three years. This review addresses special education teacher and related service personnel licensure and professional development; parent, student, and community engagement, including compliance with Child Find requirements; facilities and classroom observations; implementation and oversight of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs); time and learning, and equal access. Please read this letter for more information.

Bullying and Harassment Prevention and Intervention Plan
The Old Rochester Regional School District & Massachusetts Superintendency Union #55, has recently updated their Bullying and Harassment Prevention and Intervention Plan. We would like to extend our gratitude to parents, guardians, local law enforcement, and community members for their invaluable contributions throughout this process. Your insights and perspectives shared during School Council meetings, the Open Forum, and through the dedicated feedback link provided in newsletters and on the District website played a crucial role in shaping our updated Plan.
Every piece of feedback was thoughtfully considered as we finalized the document, ensuring that it not only addresses the specific needs of our students and staff but also aligns with best practices in bullying prevention and intervention. We recognize that the partnership between the school district and the community is vital to the success of our initiatives, and we appreciate your ongoing support in creating a positive and inclusive school climate.
