Support for our CCE No Place for Hate Coalition:
Our 5th grade No Place for Hate Coalition wants to make sure our amazing school's diversity is celebrated! We are planning a schoolwide No Place for Hate activity in which students will be listening to the book The Sandwich Swap by Queen Rania Al Abdullah and Kelly DiPucchio while learning about the delicious foods of different cultures. We'll also be talking about ways to show respect and kindness about foods that may be different from ones we've tried before (we won't be eating any food during this activity, just talking about it!).
To add to this activity, we'd like to give CCE families the opportunity to submit one of their family's favorite recipes so we can compile them in a CCE Recipe Book to share with other CCE families. If you would like your family's favorite recipe added and shared out with other CCE families, please complete this form so all of our families have the chance to try some delicious, diverse new meals!
Last, we’d like to ask families to bring an empty box/container of a food your family loves or from your family’s culture or family traditions. Our hope is that we receive enough boxes to create a domino effect display, showing that kindness and acceptance (not just tolerance) is like a domino effect - what starts with one can spread to many! We’ll end by creating a display of the different food containers to show what a beautiful and diverse menu we have within our families! If your family would like to bring an empty food container, please bring it to Mrs. Hougham’s office in the next few weeks.
We appreciate your time and participation!

EMBEDDED PD
Special thank you to the PTA for sponsoring monthly embedded PD opportunities for our teachers and staff! Oct kicked off with Tech or Treat and this week in was Pies & PD at the Techs-giving Cafe! We appreciate your support of continual curiosity and learning for our staff!
DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP
We had a great month in the Creation Cave talking about Media Balance. As we near two school breaks, I hope they will take these lessons with them and remember to find time from friends, family, and screen-free fun!
In honor of Media Balance, our lessons included a STEAM, or in this case a SEAM challenge (no-tech), to build a Turkey Tower to keep their turkey safe from Thanksgiving. Students in upper grades worked to build the tallest standing tower, and lower grades wanted a secure/sturdy tower, all while working in groups using only the materials provided and racing against the clock. Some classes even got to enjoy the nice weather!
