Marian Central Friday Focus
293rd Issue - May 3, 2024
From the Desk of Mr. Cody O'Neill
It’s coming to the end of the 23/24 school year and it’s the end of year number 2 for me also. This year has had a lot of ups and downs and I’ve continued to try to learn through it all. I know mistakes still happen, but I continue to stress the trust and patience in athletics and hope you can all start to see the changes that have been made and continue to help change the trajectory of this school and its athletics.
This spring has been an incredible one so far with the new faces in programs and the resurgence of the girls’ softball program. It’s been so fun to watch these girls get after it on the diamond and compete at such a high level. Currently our girls are 12-10 and got the 8th place seed in the regional. I believe that coach Paul Sandall (’81 Marian grad) has finally gotten the notice of his girls that they can compete and play with anybody. They lost some tough games early in the year against Richmond and Crystal Lake Central but continued to move forward. We now understand the game and I am so looking forward to coach Paulie taking this team to post season and maybe, just maybe turning some heads with the amount of turnaround he’s been able to do so far. Softball has three games this next week with senior night being on Wednesday. We start post season on May 13th at 4:30 here at home on Raymond Benoy Field.
Our girls' soccer team started fast this spring and have continued dominance throughout the season. Our girls got the 3 seed in the regional and will play Friday the 10th of May at 4:30 pm at Marengo High School. The team has a great mix of talent and ages that have worked extremely well together. The team’s scoring leader is Adriana Wrzos, and last week alone she scored 15 goals. These girls have great fire power and will be looking to win a regional title and push themselves through to sectionals which will be held here at Peter Baker Stadium on the 18th of May. Come on out and support your Marian girls’ athletics.
There's been a lot of change this spring with coaches also. Mrs. Gina Jasovic has taken over our boys tennis team. She has done an incredible job with them and even though they have few numbers they have shown great improvement so far this spring. Our baseball team has a new head man also in coach Matt Schmidt. He has taken the reins by storm and has had a tough season with schedule and weather but has shown his ability to lead and get these boys to play hard. Last, but certainly not least, even though he’s not new to the program, coach Stephen Thomas takes over as head track and field coach. Having both his kids be tremendous track runners here in the past, coach has continued to put his knowledge and wisdom into these young men and women, and has done a great job leading this program.
As always, support Marian athletics and if ever there are questions or concerns, please reach out to me.

Book Buyback
A message from MBS Book Supply:
As we get closer to the end of the school year, we want to remind you that your families can sell back their print books through the Online Buyback Program. The BNC-Virtual Online Buyback allows families to recoup some of the money they spent on books that they no longer need. Online buyback is a service we provide automatically in the online bookstore https://bnck-12.com/mariancentral, ensuring families have a convenient and easy way to sell back their books anytime, anywhere. Starting a week before the end of classes, families will receive buyback notices that list the books they have purchased from the online bookstore and the sell back price for each. Families can also sell back titles to us that they acquired elsewhere.
With Online Buyback, students:
• Receive competitive prices
• Get free shipping
• Receive their payment via check or PayPal two to four weeks after we receive their books
