CHPS Safety Announcement
Dear Columbia Heights Public Schools Community,
We have been made aware of threats to schools on social media (SnapChat and TikTok). Columbia Heights Public Schools is not named and there is no credible threat to our schools. CHPS takes every alleged threat seriously and follows investigation protocols in collaboration with the Columbia Heights Police Department.
We urge parents/guardians to talk with your student about the importance of using social media responsibly and to monitor their student’s usage. We all play important roles in supporting the safety of our schools. Students are often aware of situations before adults, so please remind your student that it is important for them to report concerns to a trusted adult. If you have any questions or other concerns about school, please call your school's principal. There are serious consequences for anyone making threats directed at a school including suspension and criminal charges.
In the event of a threat, we enact our Standard Response Protocols (see below.) If a school is placed in a lockdown, parents/guardians are notified via an email message from the principal and an automated phone call. Drills are practiced with students throughout the school year and staff are trained on safety protocols.
Thank you for your efforts to keep our schools safe and for your support of Columbia Heights Public Schools.

Youth Art Calendar Deadline is October 1!
Calling all youth! What does community mean to you?
Show the City of Columbia Heights with your artwork for their 2025 wall calendar! The City will print a calendar featuring art by CH's very own resident youth artists. From now until Oct 1, use crayons, colored pencils, markers, paints, or any other medium to make art with the theme "Community" in mind. The calendar will also include important dates and reminders relevant to Columbia Heights.
The City of Columbia Heights will enlist the help of community members to select the final art pieces to be included in the calendar. Artists whose work is chosen to be featured for any of the 12 months of the year will receive recognition in the City Newsletter and a free copy of the calendar.
