November 2024
Principal Message
As the fall and winter seasons bring cooler temperatures and rainy weather, we ask that you please ensure your child comes to school dressed appropriately for outdoor activities. This includes wearing a warm jacket, closed toed shoes or boots, and any other weather-appropriate clothing that will keep them dry and comfortable throughout the day. With the right attire, students can fully enjoy recess and other outdoor activities, even in chilly or wet conditions.
Friday, November 1 marks the end of our first grading period, which means that conferences are just around the corner. Conferences will take place the evening of November 21-22 and during November 25-26. During conferences, I encourage you to take this opportunity to meet with your child's teacher(s) to discuss their progress and to learn how you can best support their learning at home. Your child's teacher will be sending out sign-ups for conferences. They will be using a digital program called Signup Genius to help with scheduling. (This program is really helpful if you are trying to schedule multiple children or if you need to meet with multiple teachers such as the PE and/or art teacher.) If you are having difficulty scheduling your conference, reach out to the teacher or the front office.
Don't forget that Daylight Savings Time ends November 3rd. Set your clocks back one hour before bed on Saturday night, and enjoy the extra hour of sleep!
I hope you have a wonderful November! Please remember to show your gratitude for all that you have, be kind to others, and take advantage of the opportunity to meet with your child's teacher(s) during conferences.

NOVEMBER CHARACTER TRAIT- RESPONSIBILITY
Gratitude is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Well. Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like emotional regulation, positive self-talk, and stress management.
Here are some conversation starters you could use at home that support the teaching and learning about "GRATITUDE".
- What is something you are Grateful for every day?
- When someone shows you Gratitude, how does it make you feel? Why?
- Can you describe positive self-talk?
- How can positive self-talk help us put Gratitude into practice?
- Share with me something you are Grateful for that makes you feel calm when you are stressed.
- What is something that makes you feel stressed? How can you manage that stress?
Fall Family-Student-Teacher Conferences
Conferences are scheduled to start the evening of 11/21 and will run through 11/26. If you know you will be out of town the week of November 25 please schedule your child's conference for either the evening of the 21st or 22nd. Our goal is to have 100% of our families attend conferences. Teachers will be scheduling these digitally through Signup Genius. Report cards will be posted on 11/5 and will be available in ParentVue.

THANK YOU TO OUR VETERANS
As we approach Veterans Day, we want to extend our sincerest gratitude to all who have served and continue to serve in our nation’s military. Our veterans embody courage, commitment, and a profound sense of duty, and we are deeply grateful for the sacrifices they have made to protect our freedoms.
Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day, a day commemorating the end of World War I on November 11, 1918—at exactly the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month. It was a day dedicated, as the original legislation stated, “to the cause of world peace.” For years, Armistice Day honored the veterans of World War I, and at that time, people hoped it would mark an end to all major wars.
However, following World War II and the Korean War, Congress amended the holiday to include all who served in our armed forces, officially renaming it Veterans Day in 1954. This day is now set aside to honor all veterans—those who served during both wartime and peace, acknowledging their vital role in defending our country and supporting peace efforts worldwide.
While both Veterans Day and Memorial Day honor our military, they differ in focus. Memorial Day pays tribute to those who died in service to our country, whereas Veterans Day is a time to celebrate and thank our living veterans, even as we remember the sacrifices made by all.
This Veterans Day, we are called to reflect on the holiday’s original message of peace. Our service members stand ready to protect, yet they also bring aid, support, and stability to communities around the world. We are forever thankful for their dedication, resilience, and the inspiration they provide us all.
Thank you to all our veterans for your service, sacrifice, and commitment to peace.

- Adults are to stay in vehicles. (The only exception would be if you needed to buckle or unbuckle a student in a car seat.)
- Have students exit on the passenger side only
- When dropping off/picking up you must go through the drop off line. Don’t park off to the side of the street or in a parking space and have your child walk to or from your car.
- Pull up to the furthest Drop off/Pick up Zone.
- There are 2 drop off and pick up locations (See table below for the drop off location of the classroom teacher.)

iPad Protection Plan
iPad Protection Plan is $25 per student. It may be paid through ParentVue or by sending check or cash to school with your scholar. We highly recommend this insurance. You never know when an accident is going to happen. If you have not paid the insurance then you will be responsible for the cost to fix or replace the iPad.
IPad Protection is an annual fee. If you had the iPad Protection Plan for the 2023-24 school year it is still effective until September 3, 2024. During the 2024-2025 school year, EPSD9 will continue to offer an optional iPad Protection Plan to students and families. The annual iPad Protection Plan will be effective from September 3, 2024-September 2, 2025. The cost for the Protection Plan is $25.00. Without this Protection Plan, students will be responsible for all repair or replacement costs. If your student did not have the iPad Protection Plan for the 2023-24 school year, students will need to bring their iPad to the office to verify the condition of the iPad prior to acceptance of your Protection Plan payment. Please click on this link for more information on iPad Protection Plan.
Cell Phones
Students will not be able to use their cell phones or any other communicative devices, including but not limited to cell phones or smart watches. These items must be stored in backpacks, turned off or on silent, for the entirety of the school day. Students are not allowed to have phones or other communicative devices on their person at any point of time during the school day. This includes in their pockets or notebooks. The expectation is that all students will adhere to this rule.
Consequences for breaking this policy:
First offense - Phone taken for the day. Reteach and phone call home. The student can pick up their cell phone from the front office after school is released for the day.
Second offense - Phone taken for the day. Phone call home. The parent or guardian must be the one to pick up the cell phone from the front office after school is released for the day. One lunchtime detention.
Third offense - Phone taken for the day. Phone call home. The parent or guardian must be the one to pick up the cell phone from the front office after school is released for the day. Two lunch detentions. The cell phone will not be allowed on campus until there is a parent/guardian meeting. Repeat offenses will fall under the category of defiance.
Although students will not be able to use their cell phones during the school day, students will have access to a landline for emergencies. If you need to speak with your child during the school day, please call the office, and we will make sure you are able to communicate any important information with them.
