Staff Spotlight
Brigitta "Gitta" Anderson is our staff spotlight for the month of December. Gitta joined the Fridley Preschool five years ago as a classroom assistant. Gitta brings a positive attitude to work and her willingness to take on any role is inspiring. This year, Gitta took on a new role serving as our early childhood screener as well as being a float classroom assistant. She has also work in school age care in the summer months as a classroom assistant. Gitta's commitment to the Preschool and FCC is superb. In addition to her role at the FCC, Gitta is a Fridley resident and an active participant in many Fridley organizations with her family. Thank you Gitta for all you do.

Health Aide
Parents are frequently concerned about when to keep children home or when to send them to school. The following information is intended to help parents with this decision.
Your child should stay home if they have a:
Fever 100 or more. Children should remain home until fever free for 24 hours without medication.
Persistent cough
Open/draining sores which are unable to be covered
If your child has vomited or has had diarrhea, he/she should stay home for 24 hours after the last episode.
Rash of unknown cause→ check with family physician before sending to school.
Please call the health office, 763-502-5114, to report: COVID-19, chickenpox, strep throat, head lice, influenza, measles, mumps, pertussis, and meningitis. Remember, children with an infectious disease are contagious before symptoms appear and they can also spread the disease when they are in contact with others in the family or community, not just at school. Always encourage good hand washing and covering your cough or sneeze. If your child becomes sick or injured at school, a staff member will notify the parent/guardian so arrangements can be made for your child to be picked up.

Pyramid Model Family Engagement
The Fridley Preschool has entered into a 5-year training program called The Pyramid Model. The Pyramid Model trains all staff in best practices related to child development in ages birth to 5. One of the strategies our teachers are using this year is a visual schedule in the classroom. The visual schedule is child-centered, uses visuals, and is placed at the student level. It helps students to see what is happening next in the classroom and helps to build structure and routine. Here is a way you can support this at home by creating a visual schedule for your family.
