Men of Distinction
Vol. 2, ED 8, 1.30.2018
Mr. Owens believes...
"As a nation, we are in need of educating EVERY child to their highest potential. We need to offer an avenue of hope and accomplishment to help children reach their goals. Mentorship has always been a part of my life and I hope that I will be able to leave a legacy of building up children so they won't become broken men. May our children leave us and go out into the world and make it a better place." ~ Mr. Melvin J. Owens
December 2017 Lunch and Learn
Thank you Mr. Paul "Shabbi" Gage for the presentation on Decision Making. It was really needed right before the Christmas break for our students. I enjoyed listening to the discussions the MoDs were having with their mentors following the presentation. I have no doubt these young men are reflecting on their decisions and how to make the best choices.
The stages of the decision-making process are:
- Defining the problem, challenge, or opportunity.
- Generating an array of possible solutions or responses.
- Evaluating the costs and benefits, or pros and cons, associated with each option.
- Selecting a solution or response.
- Implementing the option chosen.
- Assessing the impact of the decision and modifying the course of action as needed. https://www.thebalance.com/decision-making-skills-with-examples-2063748
January 2018 Lunch and Learn
Thank you Mr. Dane Felicien for his presentation on Work Ethic! Mr. Felicien shared many examples of famous people who achieved greatness because of their consistency everyday and their strive to get better. Mr. Felicien stated, "never stop doing your best just because someone doesn't give you credit." It was fun to hear the MoDs share their stories of how they have achieved things in their lives simply for not giving up and continuing to work hard and take risks.

The definition of Farmer Pride!
Mr. Kris Gutierrez, class of 1995 LHS Fighting Farmer, is always supporting the Men of Distinction. You might know him! He is on the NBC5 news everyday at 5PM. He stated he would like to come visit us sometime and speak to the young men. We will be honored to have Kris offer some words of wisdom and encouragement. Farmer Pride!
