
Demo Memo Friday Update

Principal Message
Dear Jefferson Community,
It's a great day to be a Demo! Our Lady Demos won their quarterfinals game yesterday and will advance to the semifinals to play Clackamas High School on Friday at 1:30 PM at the Chiles Center. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and success!
Please note the following schedule and exciting events for Friday:
Friday Schedule:
- We will run the same bell schedule as yesterday (A Day Schedule), but with some adjustments:
- 5th and 7th Periods will take place with lunch starting at 11:41 AM.
- Flex Periods: Students needing academic support in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and World Language can attend Flex with specific teachers offering support. Teachers will have signage in their classrooms to indicate where Flex will be held.
Basketball Game & Rooter Buses:
- Free Tickets: We are providing 120 tickets for students to attend the game! Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Rooter Buses: We have 2 rooter buses available for students to travel to the Chiles Center. The bus will depart from Jefferson on the Kerby side at 12:30 PM on Friday.
- Permission Slips: Students who wish to ride the rooter bus must submit a signed permission slip before departure. These permission slips will be available after school today (Thursday) in the Main Office.
- Other Students: Students not attending via the rooter bus can submit their permission slip in the Main Office during lunch on Friday.
- Backpacks: You are not allowed to bring your backpacks inside of the Chile Center, so students will need to make arrangements before heading to the arena

Her debut novel Dear Martin, about a high school senior in a predominantly white school who starts writing letters to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. after he has a dangerous encounter with racist police officers, was sold as a proposal in a two-book deal and published in 2017 by Crown Books for Young Readers.
Stone has stated she began writing her debut novel Dear Martin after the death of Jordan Davis, a 17-year-old black high school student who was fatally shot by a white man in a hate crime in 2012. The book debuted on the New York Times bestseller list at #4. It was also chosen as a finalist for the William C. Morris award in 2017 and received a starred review from Booklist.
It has been published and translated in Germany, Brazil, Indonesia, The Netherlands, UK, Turkey, and Romania.Two years after it was first published, Dear Martin again hit the New York Times bestseller list, at #1 for Young Adult Paperbacks in February 2020.
Nic Stone will be here at Jefferson tomorrow. Students interested will need to email Ms. Susan Elliot- selliott@pps.net. The presentation will be in the Cafeteria beginning around 11AM. Hoping that we get a nice crowd for the presentation, which will last about 45min.
