- 6/24 Last Day of School! (Half Day)
June 13, 2025
A Message from the Principals
Happy Friday, Panther Families!
What a wonderful week we had at school! We celebrated with year-end grade level picnics, a magical Kindergarten Sing Along, a FUN SeaBreeze trip for our 5th graders, a fantastic OUTDOOR field day and the most wonderful Pine Brook Summer Kick-Off last night sponsored by our hardworking PTSA. We have loved every minute of our time spent with families this week!
It is with mixed emotions that we share some important news about three beloved members of our school community who will be retiring this year. Mr. Scheil, our talented art teacher, Mrs. Benham, our dedicated Grade 5 teacher, and Mrs. McAdam, our compassionate school counselor, have each decided to retire after many years of outstanding service to our Pine Brook School Community. Their passion, commitment, and care have made a lasting impact on our students, families, and staff. β€οΈ
We are deeply grateful for their contributions in nurturing creativity, fostering academic growth, and supporting the social-emotional well-being of our students. While we will miss them dearly, we celebrate their incredible careers and wish them the very best in this new chapter!
Please join us in honoring and thanking Mr. Scheil, Mrs. Benham, and Mrs. McAdam for their remarkable dedication to our school community. Theyβll be so missed!
Thanks for your continued partnership, families. Enjoy the weekend!
Andrea and Allie

β Pine Brook is Now a Community School β
We are excited to announce that we are now officially a Community School!
What are Community Schools?
The Community Schools Strategy transforms a school into a place where educators, local community members, families, and students work together to strengthen conditions for student learning and healthy development. As partners, they organize in- and out- of school resources, supports, and opportunities so that young people thrive.
GCSD's Intended Impact
We are committed to ensuring equitable outcomes by building deep connections with families
and creating strategic community partnerships so that:
children can be healthy and successful
families can be strong
our community can thrive
Stay tuned over the summer for more information about how we will expand and enrich the learning experiences and supports for our families at Pine Brook!
Important End-of-Year Schedule Update for PreKβ8 Families
The following end-of-year schedule changes for PreKβ8 schools were approved by the Board of Education on May 6 and reflect the fact that the district did not use all of its allotted emergency closure (snow) days this year:
Monday, June 23: This will now be the last full day of school for all PreKβ8 students, and the final day for PM pre-kindergarten students. (Originally, the last full day was scheduled for Wednesday, June 25.)
Tuesday, June 24: This will be a half-day for all PreKβ8 students. AM and full-day PreK students will attend in the morning only. (Originally, the half-day was scheduled for Thursday, June 26.)
Because the program follows the school calendar, the last day of KidsCare for the school year will be Tuesday, June 24. Summer programming begins July 7.
Wednesday, June 25 β Friday, June 27: There will be no school for PreK-8 students. These days will be used for teacher professional learning and planning. Please note: There is no change to the high school calendar.
June 16 remains the last instructional day for high school students.
From June 17β25, students in grades 9β12 will attend by exam only. Students will receive an exam schedule so they know when to attend based on their course enrollment.
Thank you for adjusting your familyβs calendar and routines accordingly. If you have any questions, please donβt hesitate to contact your childβs school.
Kids Heart Challenge in PE Class
Students at Pine Brook took part in the American Heart Association's Kids Heart Challenge this year. This event consisted of students having the option of helping to raise donations for the AHA and concluded with all students participating in the Kids Heart Challenge Event in their Physical Education Classes. During the event students took part in a variety of activities related to physical activity and exercise. They participated in jump activities, basketball, and jump roping all while learning the importance of having a healthy heart and raising awareness for heart disease. This year the students at Pine Brook raised over $8500 for the American Heart Disease in their fight against heart disease! We are proud of those who helped raise donations and everyone for participating in the event!

Juneteenth Celebration
Juneteenth is just around the corner, and weβre excited to have our end-of-the-year BBQ celebration with you.
What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth is a celebration for all, bringing together family and friends to honor this significant milestone in our history. It marks the end of slavery in the United States, commemorating the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This celebration is a time for reflection on how far we have come and a reminder of the ongoing journey towards equality.
Our GCSD Community is invited!!
This event is for everyone β students, staff, families, and the whole community. Itβs all about remembering our journey and celebrating the emancipation from slavery. Weβre bringing the community together with music, games, dance, food trucks, and so much more. And the best part? The BBQ dinner is FREE !We need everyone to register so we can prepare for this awesome event, and itβs super easy β click the link below.
Registration is mandatory! Please register here
MCC Career Fair & Free Degree Opportunity
On Monday, June 16th, from 5:15-7:30, MCC will be hosting a Career Expo for Adults. This event is targeting adult populations and one of the featured departments is Education and Human Services. Representatives from Greece Central will be present to share information about job opportunities with the school district. Anyone interested is welcome to attend for free.
A noteworthy element to the event will be an opportunity to learn about the new SUNY Reconnect program, which provides free tuition, fees, books, and materials to adult students (aged 25-55) without a degree, for certain programs, including Early Childhood, Childhood, and Adolescent Education transfer programs that lead to teacher certification. Study can be full or part time. Please share this information with friends and family that may be interested.
