Principal's Corner
Hi CHS Families,
As we enter the last week of October, we want to provide guidance to ensure that our end-of-month fall celebrations are inclusive, joyful, and respectful of the diverse identities and experiences of our students, staff, and families. Halloween is on Thursday, October 31st and we are mindful that not all members of the school community participate in Halloween celebrations, and that some students experience barriers that prevent them from participating in ways that promote a sense of belonging and inclusion.
Costume Guidelines
Costumes should not include props, real or fake.
Costumes should not depict violence and may not include blood, gore, or additional fake body parts.
Costumes should not include gang depictions or horror characters.
Costumes may not include weapons, real or fake.
No part of your costume may completely cover your head or face.
Costumes may not demean any race, religion, culture, ethnicity, nationality, disability, gender, or gender identity.
Costumes should not hinder you from routine school activities.
No Pets allowed, and no unenrolled CHS students
Anyone wearing disruptive or offensive costumes will be asked to change at the discretion of a member of the administrative team. Offensive costumes have no place at our school as we strive to be an inclusive learning community.
Remember the focus of our school is to provide a safe environment for all students, and staff alike.

Family Liaisons
Family Enrichment Cafe, will be this Wednesday, October 30th, starting at 8:30am,hosted by the CHS Family Liaisons. All parents and guardians are invited to join.
Attendance
Please note that school starts at 8 am each day. Ensuring that students arrive on time is essential for them to settle in and be ready to learn.
The attendance appeal process for quarter one will begin on October 21st 2024 and end on November 1st 2024. Parents and guardians may contact our parent liaisons - Olga Escalante, Jay Velez, or Yrlen Ysasis to schedule an appointment in Spanish. Parents and guardians may contact Mr. Carangelo at 617-466-5043 to schedule an appointment in English. This is in compliance with the handbook and all guidelines will apply.
I have outlined a few noteworthy revisions made to the Attendance Policy below. Additionally, please click here to read the revised policy in full. It is important to review the entire policy as it will be operational for the remainder of the school year.
Students will be allowed to have five excused absences per quarter, an increase from the three excused absences allowed in the previous policy.
A note signed by a parent or caregiver is still required for a student to receive an excused absence. In lieu of a note, parents unable to provide a note will have the option of calling the school to report an excused absence.
Students will receive a ten (10) point penalty in their average for any class in which they have three (3) or more unexcused absences. The previous policy dropped any grade affected by the Attendance Policy to a 60
For any student whose grade is impacted due to this policy, notification and access to this policy will be included with the student’s report card.
An Attendance Appeal Board has been created to review appeals denied by the Attendance Office.

Notice of Searches
We are writing to let you know in advance that out of an abundance of caution, school administration may at times conduct random searches when students arrive at school. Providing a safe and secure learning environment is a top priority. These searches will help us maintain a safe school and an environment where students are free to focus on learning. As a part of our commitment to keeping our school community safe, we will continue to administer random searches.
