Hope you all have had a fantastical week!
Next week is College Week and besides some fun spirit days, I've got some fun activities and prizes planned! (Even my distance learners can join in!!)
In this week's newsletter, I've got some new scholarships, information from UT, ETSU and a new virtual college tour! So be sure to check it out below. I'll always put the newest information at the top of these!!
As you guys start getting accepted to colleges, be sure to let me know. I want to be sure to celebrate with you all. And let me know any other exciting news!!

ACT Senior Retake - October 24th
There will be another free opportunity for you to take ACT on Saturday, Oct. 24th here at Eagleville.
The deadline to register is next Friday, so we need to know who to get vouchers to and will need all seniors that are interested to fill out the link below by Monday, September 21st.
Since there many scholarships that have a deadline before December 1st, the new date in October will be important for anyone who needs an fantastical ACT score for scholarships.

New Scholarship Opportunities
This a nationwide need-based merit scholarship, designed to provide each recipient with the opportunity to graduate college debt-free! Visit Haganscholarships.org for more information. Deadline to apply is November 15th.
American Legion Oratorical Contest
Write and present an original speech focusing on the US Constitution, the competitors can "earn" needed education money and develop a deep appreciation and knowledge of our country's guiding document. State winners will receive $1,000 - $3,000 while National winners will receive $20,000 - $25,000. If you are interested, visit www.tennesseelegion.org and click on the American Legion Oratorical tab.
Be Bold Scholarship - $10,000 Award
Deadline: September 30, 2020
To be eligible for the scholarship a student must: A) Be in Grade 12 and plan on enrolling in college by the fall of 2021. B) Have a GPA of at least 2.5.

Good Fortune Scholarship - $1,000 - Award
Deadline: September 30, 2020
To be eligible for the scholarship a student must: A) Be at least 13 years old and enrolled or will enroll in a college or university in the US. B) Be a legal resident of the U.S. or Puerto Rico. Nitro Scholarship - $2,000 - 12 Awards
Deadline: September 30, 2020
To be eligible for the scholarship a student must: A) A student who is currently enrolled as a high school senior or a student enrolled at an accredited college or university located within the United States and carry a GPA of at least 2.5.

Coca-Cola Scholars Program - $20,000 – 150 Awards
Deadline: October 31, 2020
To be eligible for the scholarship a student must: A) Current high school (or home-schooled) student attending a school in the U.S. (or select DoD schools) who will graduate during the 2020-2021 academic school year B) U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationals, U.S. Permanent Residents, Refugees, Asylees, Cuban-Haitian Entrants, or Humanitarian Parolees - based on the guidelines utilized by U.S. Department of Education for Federal Financial Aid eligibility Applications can be found by going to: https://studentscholarships.org/scholarship/8843/coca_cola_scholars_program_scholarship.php

MTSU Merit-Based Scholarships
Trustee Scholarship - $5,000 a year - must have at least a 3.5 GPA and a 30 on the ACT
Presidential Scholarship - $4,500 a year - must have at least a 3.5 GPA and a 25 on the ACT
True Blue Scholarship - $2,000 a year - must have at least a 3.5 GPA and a 23 on the ACT
To be considered for a Freshman Guaranteed Scholarships, students must be a first-time incoming freshman who plans to enroll at MTSU in the Summer or Fall semester. Students must have ALL of the following on file with the Admissions Office by December 1 to be considered for a scholarship:
- Application for admissions as a new Incoming Freshman
- Admissions Application fee paid
- Qualifying official ACT and/or SAT test score (without the writing subscore)
- Only ACT/SAT scores on file with MTSU as of the Dec 1st deadline will be considered. MTSU will not consider writing test subscores or accept test superscores in regard to scholarship consideration.
- Qualifying official sixth-semester high school transcript with cumulative GPA requirement (transcript must reflect GPA through end of junior year).
- Must be US Citizen or permanent resident
No separate scholarship application is required for guaranteed academic scholarships. Student will receive notification of the scholarship award offer by February.
UT Honors Program
- Haslam Scholars Program - invitation only - so be sure to check your email.
- Chancellor’s Honors Program – Liberal arts program promoting intellectual curiosity, social responsibility, and global cultural awareness
- Honors Leadership Program – Focuses on personal development, leadership & ethics, and service-learning
- 1794 Scholars Program – Immerses students in the Volunteer experience through academic engagement, campus involvement, and global & cultural awareness
2020 Virtual College Leadership Fair
There will be over 100 Universities in attendance. Students will have the ability to move around virtual tables to talk to the University Army ROTC programs, advisors, and current college students.

College Week - September 21st - 25th
ACT Information
Seniors will take the ACT on Tuesday, September 22nd at Eagleville. Seniors will be allowed to leave with a signed note from their parent/guardian.

Registration deadline for all October test dates is September 25th - no late fees!

College Webinars hosted by MTSU
MTSU Admissions will host a webinar series for prospective students to learn more about the college admissions process. Each webinar will incorporate a new perspective into the college application process, including information regarding: financial aid requirements, scholarship search, and many tips and tricks to help throughout this process. Please join us in learning how to excel in each application step and how to be better prepared for your college search journey.

There will be local employees hiring for construction, manufacturing, supply chain and health care jobs. Jobs could be in an office, warehouse, job site or health care setting. Attendees to the virtual job expo will be entered to win a $50 Amazon gift card!
FAFSA
- FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the application for government aid including the HOPE scholarship, TN Promise, grants and any other type of Federal/State financial aid. The application opens up on October 1st.
Some grants are first come first serve, so it's best to get it done early. The student and parent will need to complete the application together and parents will need to access their 2019 tax information.
If you do not complete the FAFSA, you will not be eligible for the HOPE Scholarship, TN Promise or any other form of federal/state aid. Deadline for completing the FAFSA for the TN Promise is February 1st.
HOPE Scholarship
HOPE awards $3,500 per year to 4-year colleges and $3,000 per year to 2-yr colleges in TN. There is also the General Assembly Merit Scholarship for students who have a 3.75 GPA or higher and at least a 29 ACT composite score.
To apply for the HOPE Scholarship, students must fill out the FAFSA.
TN Promise
Apply at tnpromise.gov
Students must file their FAFSA by Feb. 1st, attend tow mandatory meetings held at local high schools and complete 8 hours of community service.
Scholarships... Money, Money, Money!
So where do find scholarships? That's an great question!
1. Be sure to check the school that you are applying for. They will have specific scholarships for their school. While most of these are merit-based (based on your GPA, courses taken and test scores) there may be other so be sure to check out their website.
2. Search Engines - these are great because they have millions of dollars worth of scholarships listed. We've complied a list of these on the EAG Counseling webpage.
3. Local Scholarships - Also on the EAG Counseling webpage are a list of scholarships we are notified of. We are constantly updating this so be sure to check it out regularly.
The key is to APPLY, APPLY, APPLY!!
Selective Service
Students may register up to 6 months before their 18th birthday.

- be a citizen of the United States
- be a resident of Tennessee
- be at least 18 years old on or before the next election
Attendance Matters
- Be sure to bring a note back to the Attendance office when an absence occurs.
- Parents are allowed to write 8 notes per school year to excuse an absences.
- After 5 unexcused absences, students/parents will need to attend an Attendance meeting.
Plan to Play Sports in College?
If you are planning to play sports in college you must register for either the NCAA or NAIA.
