Shark Scoop
November 2024
Principal, Ms. Jonas
Dear Naples Park Families,
The month of Thanks is upon us, and we have a lot to be thankful for here at Naples Park Elementary School. I am very thankful to be the principal at this amazing school and work directly with your students and this talented staff. I am also thankful for the amazing family turnout we had for our 3rd Annual Vocabulary Parade this past Thursday.
Moving forward, November promises to be a time to honor NPE traditions. On November 11th, we will be holding our 3rd Annual “Bring a Veteran to School” Day. Students and staff have been encouraged to invite Veterans and their families in for a special assembly to Honor our Heroes. Veterans need to RSVP for this event. Later in the month, our PTO will be sponsoring one of NPE’s wonderful traditions as we celebrate our Thanksgiving Banquet on Thursday, November 21st. Interested volunteers are encouraged to reach out to our PTO if you would like to help.
As we have moved into the second quarter of learning, we are proud of our students and teachers for the positive learning trends happening around this “Fintastic” place. Shark Student Leaders of the Month, Shark Student Math Fluency Awards, Shark Reading Awards and more are all going out monthly to academic and leadership exemplars.
It is good to be at Naples Park Elementary School and together, we are Shark Strong.

Math Minute, Mr. Masiello
Dear Families,
As we move into November, I want to take a moment to reflect on the progress our students are making in mathematics. This month, we’ll be focusing on critical concepts such as addition and subtracting. Understanding these topics is essential, as they are foundational for more complex math skills. You may weave the idea of addition and subtraction in everyday conversations with your students helping them understand in real world context that addition is the idea of putting together and subtraction is the idea of taking apart. By helping students find connections to real-world situations, we can make learning math fun and relevant.
Thank you,
Mr. Masiello
Counselor Corner, Mrs. Ruben
November is the time of year to stop and reflect and give thanks. Thank you families for all of your support and partnership here at NPE!
Shark Leader of the Month
Due to our days out of school in October, we have combined our October and November ceremony for Shark Leader of the Month and it is now on November 8th. Please see below for the character traits we are celebrating. Please note that this is a closed event for families and students selected each month.
School Store Reminders
Our school store is open Thursdays and Fridays (7:45-8:15) for our students to trade in their “Fintastics” that they have earned for special prizes!
Help for the Holidays
As we approach the holiday season, we have several local charitable organizations that have offered to help our Naples Park families. These agencies will provide food and a few gifts for your children. If you are in need of assistance for the holiday, please reach out to me. Mrs. Ruben at 239-377-7806.
Our student lighthouse team wants to thank you for making the Red Ribbon week and Collier Harvest food drive a success. Every “can” helped our students give to others and create a stronger community. We are grateful for your support.
Literacy Corner, Mrs. Cox
Dear Parents,
As November unfolds, we embrace themes of gratitude, togetherness, and reading! With the holidays approaching, it’s a wonderful time to nurture a love for books and storytelling. Here are some engaging activities and book recommendations to inspire our young readers as the days grow shorter.
November Reading Activities
- Gratitude Journaling
Encourage your child to start a gratitude journal to write about their daily reading and how it made them feel. This promotes reflection and helps connect them to their reading experiences. - Storytelling Night
Host a family storytelling night. Each member can share a favorite story or create an original one. Using props or costumes can make it even more engaging and fun! - Author Study
Choose a children's author to focus on this month. Read several of their books and discuss their style, themes, and characters. Consider authors like Mo Willems, Patricia Polacco, or Kevin Henkes.
Book Recommendations
Here are some wonderful books to enjoy this November:
- “Thanks for Thanksgiving” by Julie Markes: A beautiful book that captures the spirit of gratitude during the holiday season.
- “It’s Thanksgiving” by Jack Prelutsky: An anthology of sprightly poems about Thanksgiving.
- “Balloons Over Broadway” by Melissa Sweet: A vibrant biography of Tony Sarg, creator of the famous Macy’s parade balloons.
- “The Story of Thanksgiving” by Nancy J. Skarmeas: A fun way to learn about the history of Thanksgiving.
- “Bear Says Thanks” by Karma Wilson: A delightful story about friendship and sharing.
- “Turkey Trouble” by Wendi Silvano: A funny tale of a turkey trying to avoid becoming the main dish.
- “The Great Turkey Race” by Steve Metzger: A humorous story about a turkey who enters a race.
- “A Turkey for Thanksgiving” by Eve Bunting: A heartwarming story about a couple’s quest for a Thanksgiving turkey.
- “The Thanksgiving Door” by A.J. Jacobs: A sweet story conveying the true meaning of Thanksgiving.
- “Thanksgiving on Thursday” (Magic Tree House) by Mary Pope Osborne: A fun adventure that combines fiction with historical facts about Thanksgiving.
We appreciate your support and involvement in fostering a love of reading in your children. Thank you for being such engaged partners in their education. Happy reading!
Attendance & Vacation Planning Matters
Plan ahead! It is important that students are at school, on time, every day! Every moment of learning is important to your child’s development and progress.
*Please note- If your child is absent for any reason, please call the front office at 377-7700 to let us know why your child is absent so we can properly notate that. In addition, all absences are unexcused unless a doctor’s note is provided. Per Florida Statute (1003.26(1)(b), students with 5 unexcused [or validated] absences within a calendar month, or 15 unexcused [or validated] within a 90 day period are considered truant and an attendance meeting may be scheduled with the school and district personnel.
