Words from our Principal
Crusader Families,
It is hard to believe we are in the last few weeks of 2020. What a year! You should have received communication from the district this week about the Governor's Stay-at-Home orders as a result of the increasing hospitalization rate of COVID patients. While this won't impact our current in-person cohort at BVM, these rising rates in California, and particularly in our South Bay community, have impacted our return to school plans for January. SUHSD will remain in distance learning for January. Please read all district communication about return to school plans so that you are informed. Information changes often, so you may be receiving multiple updates.
We are celebrating our staff and student Turkey Trotters! BVM was able to coordinate a virtual Turkey Trot for staff and students. The student details are below. We had over 100 students participate! As for staff, we divided into teams and competed for participation bragging rights. My team, Team FEAST MODE, was the winner with the highest number of participants! And Mr. Schroeder took the virtual trophy for fastest time with a 13:26 for 2 miles! What a great way to remind everyone of the importance of physical activity and friendly competition.
We have 2 upcoming deadlines:
1. Yearbook photos. If you want your student featured in our BVM yearbook this year, please submit a photo. Details are below. We are on a deadline for this, so please submit these before winter break.
2. Immunizations. We will be expanding opportunities for in person support next semester. If your student is one of the students who has not turned in immunizations, they will not be allowed on campus to participate in these opportunities. Don't' miss out! Please contact Nurse Christi to submit your immunizations. christine.stoddard@sweetwaterschools.org
This is the last push for students to turn in missing assignments and prepare for End of Course (EOC) exams. We will have a modified minimum day schedule for EOC Week. The schedule is posted below and each teacher has deadlines for submitting late and missing assignments.
I wish all of our students the best of luck during these last few weeks. This has been a tremendously challenging semester for all of us for different reasons. Our 7th grade students transitioned from elementary school without being on the BVM campus, our 8th grade students miss the normal reality of attending school every day like they did last year, our teachers have redesigned their entire instructional plan and curriculum to meet the needs of students in distance learning, and our parents and families have tried to find ways to balance working and parenting in a time of a pandemic. Let's keep the focus on our amazing students and continue to support one another and work together to make this school year the best we can!
Sincerely,
Teresa Kramer

School Highlights
Congratulations Turkey Trotters!
The annual Turkey Trot has been a BVM tradition for the last 50 years. Despite the pandemic, BVM was able to uphold that tradition by hosting a virtual turkey trot.
Unlike past years, runners had about two weeks to complete a 2 mile run. With parental permission, students could chose their own course for the race – making the event especially accommodating for social distancing guidelines.
There were 109 students that participated in this year’s turkey trot. Those finishing at the top of their class include:
7th graders: Sophia Nunez, Julianna Soto, Jaidyn Lee, Lincoln Bauer, Peyton Marion, & Jorge Godinez.
8th graders: Isabelle Van Dorn, Olivia Gutierrez, Valeria De La Fuente, Victor Renteria, Dylan Funk, & Luke Janssen.
Great Job Crusaders!
