Teacher Presentation - Wilmot Elementary School
Michelle Bonus, along with fourth grade students from Wilmot Elementary School, conducted a science experiment about layered liquids for the Board. Their results showed that the density of the liquids kept them separate instead of mixing them together. This presentation was meant to show the Board just one of the ways that our teachers include hands-on learning experiences for our students. View their full presentation here.
Superintendent's Report
Dr. McConnell updated the Board on the middle school schedule evaluation process. Parent, student, and staff surveys, as well as parent/guardian focus groups, and student focus groups have been conducted. The first committee meeting to review the results was on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. The committee consists of teachers from various subjects and grade levels from both middle schools. View the full presentation here.
Portrait of a Graduate and the Strategic Plan
The ‘Portrait of a Graduate’ was created when community stakeholders were asked to describe the knowledge, skills, and characteristics they hoped students would develop throughout their time in District 109. Dr. McConnell discussed our Portrait of a Graduate in conjunction with the strategic planning process. Dr. McConnell shared that this year we have been making the Portrait of a Graduate a larger part of our discussions and planning.
The Board agreed that with the strategic plan being only two years old, they would keep that as is and focus on supporting the vision in our Portrait of a Graduate.
2019 Tax Levy
On October 7, the Finance Committee of the Board met to discuss options related to the 2019 tax levy. The consensus recommendation is to continue abatement of the Debt Service Fund levy—asking taxpayers to provide 109 roughly $1.6 million less than the District’s maximum taxing authority. Payment on the bond principal and interest due will be made from operating funds. View the tax levy presentation here.
2018-2019 Audit Results
John Aceto of Evoy, Kamschulte, Jacobs, & Co. presented the external audit for fiscal year 2018-2019. District 109 received an opinion on the audit consistent with prior fiscal periods. Mr. Aceto spoke highly of the financial stewardship exhibited by District 109’s Business Office.
