Principal's Message
Dear Bulldog Families-
I hope that you are enjoying your time away from school. I wanted to send a quick mid-week communication to because these next 15 school days before winter break are going to go quickly!
Weekly Highlights:
- Harvest of Love Food Drive: Congratulations to Ms. Haddenham's advisory students! they were the winners of our food drive competition. I will be purchasing them donuts as a yummy treat for all of their hard work!
- Mitchell High School Veteran's Assembly was held in place of November Community Circle. Our Bulldog Advance Band played the National Anthem, Mitchell High School's Color Guard and Step Team performed, too. We are so happy that we were able to reschedule this assembly from the November snow days.
- Palmer High School Theatre came to perform this week. It was fun to see our Bulldog Alum back on our stage and performing for our current students.
- Eye Love Care Exams will begin the Friday we return from Thanksgiving Break. These exams will take place at school during the school day. Ms. Moorhead has created a schedule and will pull students from class. Please see information below if you have further questions.
- 6th Grade Snow-Ball is going to be on Tuesday, December 10th from 4p-5:30p. This is a special event put on by our WEB students for our 6th graders ONLY. There will be more information to come!
Reminders:
- Quarter two grades will be open on December 11th. Please be sure to check your student(s) PowerSchool to support them with their grades. If you have any issues or questions with PowerSchool, please reach out to kaye.jones@d11.org.
- STAR Mid-Year Testing will take place the first week we return from break during advisory. Students will take one math and one reading exam. We will be testing on Tuesday and Thursday. It is very important that students are at school on time and for the duration of the day during testing. This ensures that they are testing in their optimal testing environment with their advisory teacher and class. Students will be creating goals for the remainder of the school year based on their outcomes. Please encourage your student to do their absolute best so that they can create meaningful goals for their academic learning.
As always, we are grateful for your ongoing support and partnership. If you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to reach out.
Wishing you a wonderful rest of your break! Looking forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday, December 2nd.
In partnership,
Julia Scott

SOS: Signs of Suicide for 8th Graders
On November 20th, Counselors presented a suicide prevention and education program called SOS Signs of Suicide to all 8th grade students. SOS Signs of Suicide teaches students about mental health and how to seek help if they are worried about themselves or a friend.
Through the program students will learn:
- that depression is treatable, so they are encouraged to seek help
- how to identify depression and potential suicide risk in themselves or a friend
- to ACT (Acknowledge, Care and Tell a trusted adult) if concerned about themselves or a friend
- Who they can turn to at school for help
There is a tip sheet with some helpful information in each of your boxes (a copy is attached to this email as well). Please review this tip sheet before tomorrow and keep this information in mind if you have a student that you are concerned about whether now, or in the future. I have also attached our school's Suicide Prevention Crisis Protocol. Please review this information as well.
If you have any concerns about student safety at any time, please contact the counseling office immediately.

Mitchell High School Toy Drive
We are excited for you to be a part of the 2024 Toy Nation campaign! Our goal is to provide each student at Monroe, Penrose, Mark Twain and Wilson ES a toy for the holidays and we need all the help we can get in order to reach this ambitious goal (around 1400 toys needed)!
Our Donation Window starts on November 4th this year and will go until December 11th. We will then take the toys to each of the elementary schools across December 12-13. There will be a decorated donation box in the front office for donations.
