International Dot Day: Monday, September 16th
International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009.
The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.
Each year on International Dot Day – with the help of people just like you – the inspiration continues. What started as a story in the pages of a book is transforming teaching and learning around the world as people of all ages re-discover the power and potential of creativity in all they do.
To celebrate please wear anything containing dots.

Exploring Good Character at PVS
Explorer of Character:
Each month at PVS we will focus on a different character trait. Students will learn about the monthly trait during their morning meeting time. At the end of each month, the teachers will select the student who is most deserving for showing the specific monthly trait. Every character trait has a color associated with it that the staff and students are encouraged to wear each Wednesday throughout the month as a reminder of the focus we are displaying to the current trait. The winners of each month will be invited to an Explorers Breakfast with administration. Students will receive their certificate as an exemplar Explorer of Character. For the month of September the character trait is demonstrating kindness and we will wear the color Orange every Wednesday of this month.
Caught You Cards:
Any staff members who "catches" a student being Kind or Responsible will receive a Caught You Card. Students who earn a card will have the option to drop their card in different boxes in the cafeteria for an opportunity to win something at the end of each week. During the end of every trimester, we will see which grade has accumulated the most Caught You cards for a reward.
Manner Banner: Each month the homeroom who displays the best manners will be awarded the Manner Banner. How??? Any staff member who does not have a Homeroom will cast their vote at the end of each month for the homeroom that they feel shows the best manners. One homeroom per grade level will earn the privilege of having the Manner Banner hung outside of their classroom for the month as a reminder of their wonderful manners and will be given an extra 20 minutes of recess.
