Last week, a Walking Wednesday student from Explorers won the raffle to pick out a recess ball for his community. He chose a new kickball. This week there will be another raffle for walking/biking participants.

The room lights were off and students were working quietly in Mr. Muir's room when pictures were taken on Monday, May 13th.

Students used cymbals and tin cans to make music. After a successful music making lesson, and when there was just 10 minutes left in the class, student played a variation on musical chairs. If two student landed on a dot when the music stopped, they played rock, paper, scissors to determine who would remain in the game.

St. Albans residents are eligible for trees to plant in their yard through Community Canopy, an Arbor Day Foundation program.

Residents register for up to two free trees at vtcommunityforestry.org/trees. The online sign-up process guides participants to the best locations to plant trees to help cool their homes, reduce energy usage, and save money. Residents can also sign-up by phone by calling the Arbor Day Foundation at 855-234-3801.

The trees must be reserved in advance and will be available for pick-up on Saturday, June 1, 10am-12pm at the St. Albans City School (29 Bellows Street).

The tree giveaway is being coordinated by the St. Albans City School and the Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program, a partnership between the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation and University of Vermont Extension.

The Champlain Valley Fair has partnered with Libraries around the state to promote reading. St. Albans Free Library is one of those librarys. Students who read three books over the summer can qualify for a free 1-day pass to the fair, a coupon for a $5 ice cream, and a free book.

This coming school year we will be moving away from the learning community structure currently in use and into smaller grade bands (mostly two grade band loops).
