Why DBQ Online?
Engaging students in authentic learning
Why Teach with the DBQ Project?
- The beauty of the DBQ is that it encapsulates several critical academic skills within a single but powerful learning activity, including: close and nuanced reading, critical analysis, and evidence-based writing.
- Students gain a deep understanding of core content by engaging in the DBQ process.
- To support the development of these critical skills, we have developed a six step method, which breaks down what is normally a complex process into manageable, concrete steps. Students gain confidence as they progress through each step.
- All our lessons are inquiry-based and student-centered. As students grapple with a driving question, they read and analyze a series of documents. Ultimately, students draw their own informed conclusions about the driving question. This process encourages students to take ownership of their learning.

Teacher Testimonials, Prince George, MD
"This was a very rich professional development activity. The ability to interact with the students side of the resources in DBQ project were very helpful. The walk-through of how to implement the DBQ resources with students allowed me to see how this could look in real life with my students. I greatly appreciated the reflective points throughout, they gave me a chance to absorb the information and even think about how each step could help my students."
