From the Principal
This week, we've been reinforcing the concept of Tolerance with our intermediate and middle school students to foster understanding, respect, and teamwork. Helen Keller's inspiring words, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much," guided our conversations, and students saw this message displayed on posters throughout the Central school. We're encouraging students to reflect on what Tolerance means to them, and it's been wonderful to hear their thoughts as I engage with them in the hallways. We want a culture of inclusivity and mutual respect within our school community.
Several activities kicked off this week, including girls' basketball, chess club, and drama. These programs allow our students to develop their skills, connect with peers, and celebrate their talents in new and exciting ways. Thank you for your continued support in helping our students grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
Food: During lunch periods, food brought from home is for the individual students to enjoy. Sharing food from home is not allowed, as it has raised allergy and health concerns. Due to potentially life-threatening allergic reactions, food can not be brought and distributed during birthdays or classes in goody bags as well. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Safety during Pick-Up and Drop-Off: As temperatures drop, prioritizing safety during drop-off and pick-up times is more important than ever. Please take extra care when exiting parking lots, following the proper signage, and driving patiently, as colder weather often leads to distractions for drivers and pedestrians. Additionally, we ask everyone to follow the guidance of our crossing guards, who are there to ensure the safety of all our students and families. Thank you for your attention to these safety measures and for helping us keep everyone safe and warm during this chilly season!

Trivia Night–Thank you!
Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s Trivia Night! Winfield parents and friends know how to showcase their favorite music themes in style! Many laughs were shared and random facts were learned. Most importantly–with the generous support of our attendees and sponsors–we were able to raise close to $4,000! Congrats to the “Concert Junkies” on their trivia win! We appreciate their generosity in donating the $100 prize to WEF! Money raised will support WEF’s annual fund and our long-term fundraising goal of upgrading the preschool playground. A special thank you to the planning committee and helpers: Emily Alanis, Anthony Alanis, Jen Cheehy, Gina Christensen, Annie Hart, Kelly Kurzer, Mike Kurzer and Karen Sabados for all of their work on this year’s event!

Intermediate Team Ideas
This week, third graders read a text on how Rosa Parks and Cesar Chavez fought for equal rights. They focused on identifying the main idea and key details. In science, students learned about how fossil dinosaur tracks reveal how quickly a dinosaur was running. They were able to determine if they could run faster than several dinosaurs. 4th graders went to the Field Museum on Tuesday. They were able to make connections with the Americas and China exhibits and see their social studies research brought to life! In 5th grade this week, students practiced their fluency skills as well as reading with expression through a reader's theater that they performed in front of the class. In social studies, they began researching a famous individual from the labor movement with their research group.
