Weekly Update
August 8th, 2023
September 9-14, 2024
Message From the Principal
Please note this Friday September 13th is our first late start, late starts this year are 2 hours. This means the doors to the school do not open until 9:30am. Students can not be dropped off early as there will not be anyone to supervise them.
Also the printed calendar had a mistake, there is NO SCHOOL on SEPTEMBER 16 this is an inservice day for teachers so students will not be attending.
We have settled in to back to school which also means behaviors have started to rise a little. A lot of these can be fixed with conversations from home. Please talk with your child about being kind, there is no reason for name calling, teasing or anything even if it is meant to be playful it is not always taken that way. You never know what kind of day a person is having it is much better to be the one that brightens their day instead of the one that darkens it.
Keeping our hands to ourself is starting to be an issue again. This was an issue last year and students who couldn't keep their hands to themselves were given a lunch detention. This year it will start with a 1 hour after school detention and will move to in school suspension followed by out of school suspension. There is no reason for hands to be on anyone, please talk to your children about this.
Eligibility
Couple of things as this is still new for some, below is what is in the Activities and Athletics Handbook.
An ineligible student means a student may not attend school events, participate in school sponsored clubs, activities (including graduation), sport competitions, plays, dances, field trips, etc. Ineligibility status will be determined on a weekly basis. Starting on the 3rd week of the semester. A student will become ineligible on Monday if they have 2 or more F’s when the grades are pulled on the previous Thursday. They will remain ineligible for the entire week Monday through Sunday.
Protocols:
1st time per semester on the ineligible list will result in a week long Probationary Period (Still eligible for activities)
2nd time per semester will result in 1 week on the Ineligible List (Not eligible for activities)
Students who are ineligible are NOT able to attend events as a fan or an athlete.
The 3rd week of school is this week September 2-6. We will run grades on Thursday September 5th, if a student has 2 or more Fs Ms. Andrews or I will pull them to have a conversation about what is going on and make a plan for bringing up their grades. They will then be on probation for the following week Monday-Sunday (September 9-15). When we pull grades on Thursday September 12th if a student on probation still has 2 or more Fs they will now become ineligible which means they are not able to practice, or participate in any events as a participant or a fan. This continues throughout the entire semester.
School is important, using the time they are given to work is important, staying organized is important, please talk with your student about this.
This policy does not just pertain athletics, eSports is in here as well as students who would like to attend district events as a spectator. If your student has 2 or more Fs it is highly encouraged that they attend ASAP.
